The American spying program automatically collects and records people’s phone information and was ruled illegal on Thursday, May 7. Congress will now have to immediately decide whether or not to end or replace the controversial anti-terrorist surveillance system, according to The Telegraph. The bill passed with a vote of 388-88, putting an end to the government’s collection of phone records, according to wired.com. Music aficionados grab a cup of joe

May 9, 2015 by Archived posts 1 Comment

By Jose Alvarez | Staff Writer | Augie’s Coffee House, located on 5th Street in Redlands, provides a warm family atmosphere with music, coffee, friends and events. There are many events at Augie’s throughout the year, such as “Art in the Alleyway”, which according to the manager, Blair Smith, happens quarterly. This is where they set up paintings and other forms of art in the alleyway next to the coffee shop. I originally went to Augie’s for “Jazz Night”, but I was disappointed when I found out that they no longer host it. In its place is another event called “Open Mic.” “Open Mic” is a small event that takes place once a week, every Tuesday, at around 6:30 p.m. It is in the … [Read more...] about Music aficionados grab a cup of joe

Don’t be fooled, Greek life is more than just a party

May 6, 2012 by Archived posts

By Aunjolay Lambert |Staff Writer| I feel some people don’t understand what you can gain by being in a sorority or fraternity. I think that sometimes TV and movies can alter a person’s view of reality and I think in this case Greek organizations get the brunt of that. For example movies like “Old School” and “Animal House” can suggest that fraternities and sororities are around just to have a good time. “Some of the negative things I’ve heard are that the girls are easy and the guys just like to drink and party,” said Ashlynne Macan, a member of a co-ed fraternity at CSUSB. Last summer I went on vacation to Virginia and my cousin, who is in a sorority, showed me around her campus … [Read more...] about Don’t be fooled, Greek life is more than just a party

Coyote Review: Justice

October 23, 2011 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Eric Sanchez |Staff Writer| Back in 2007, just like every high school kid with a laptop, I wanted to be a DJ. Instead of doing my homework, I was surfing the blogosphere for anything and everything new and danceable, and leading the charge of the new French house wave was Justice. Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay first gained recognition for their work under the name Justice with their remix of the now disbanded Simian’s “Never Be Alone” the year prior. They followed that up with † (Cross), their first LP with such hits as “D.A.N.C.E.” and “DVNO”, and once those tracks started to hit the local Forever 21’s playlist, Justice was just about a household name. A house full of teenagers … [Read more...] about Coyote Review: Justice

Debt ceiling rises on Capitol Hill

August 2, 2011 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

Obama Boehner

By Eric Brown |Managing Editor| After arduous debate in both houses of Congress, the Senate gave final approval to legislation to raise the nation's debt by $2.4 trillion in conjunction with cutting federal deficits. Having already passed Monday through the House, President Barack Obama is likely to sign the bill into law wiftly after months of debate have stalemated many efforts in Washington to move further in economic recover. As the trenches of partisan gridlock were dug, Obama and House Speaker John Boehner both proved unlikely allies in a hotly debated topic. While GOP and Tea Party hardliners apposed any raise in the debt-ceiling, Democrats and progress oriented Republicans … [Read more...] about Debt ceiling rises on Capitol Hill
