In the homeless community there are a plethora of misconceptions that individuals are fighting against before they even say a word. SB fights against poverty
By Saeed Villanueva |Staff Writer| San Bernardino fights scarcity by concentrating on homelessness and providing food for lower-income families, but the numbers show the city still has a long way to go in their efforts against poverty. San Bernardino has been through a lot since the city filed for bankruptcy in 2012 and has made gradual improvements to rebuild its economy each year. The county has made strides to improve its homeless situations by creating programs that find shelter for them. The Homelessness Housing and Assistance Act requires each county in every U.S. state to conduct an annual point in time count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons each year. In 2014, the annual point in time count of the homeless population was an average of about 578,424 in the U.S. From this number, there are an estimated 58,000 homeless college students nationwide, according to USA Today. Funding cut, homeless get the boot
By Sharonda Harris Staff Writer Due to recent federal budget cuts, a local foundation is forced to turn way several homeless women and children who are in crucial need of shelter and basic necessities. The Time For Change Foundation (TFCF) is a local non-profit agency that specializes in assisting the homeless. It is there that women and children are able to gain skills to gain employment.
