June 9, 2016 by Archived posts 4 Comments

By Rebekah Deponte |Staff Writer| "Money Monster" is categorized as a thriller, however, there is not much thrill to it. There was some suspense, humor, romance, action and shock. A Piece of Childhood returns in 2016

February 2, 2016 by Archived posts 5 Comments

By Cassie Coughlin |Staff Writer| It seems 2016 will be the year Hollywood grants us with the gift of revisiting some of our childhood films. The most stand out classics making their presence this year is "Tarzan," "The Jungle Book," "Finding Dory," and "Alice Through the Looking Glass." Seeing a film that was so dear to our childhood hearts, remade or made into a sequel, might cause some to reminisce on simpler times. Although these remakes are similar, they are not the same as the classics. "These remakes allow you to enjoy them differently, because the action is emphasized more and they seem more real life, rather than cartoon version," said student Lydia Delgado. These … [Read more...] about A Piece of Childhood returns in 2016

Our favorite Rocky Man is back: Elton John performs mini concert in Hollywood, at Jimmy Kimmel’s outdoor concert

January 22, 2016 by Archived posts 1,082 Comments

By Jaritza Mendoza | Staff Writer | Sir Elton John closed out Jimmy Kimmel Live with a performance that brought fans back to the past on Jan. 19. Before the concert, the show's representative requested the audience to please put aside their phones to solely focus on the performance rather than their screens, a request which is rarely asked. With the absence of smartphones, the song acted like a machine, transporting fans to the past where concerts were meant to be experienced, not recorded. A crowd of around 200 waited for hours in order to see the famous "Piano Man." The concert took place at Kimmel's live stage in Hollywood as part of John's promotion for his new album … [Read more...] about Our favorite Rocky Man is back: Elton John performs mini concert in Hollywood, at Jimmy Kimmel’s outdoor concert

Tegan & Sara shine through Sunset Boulevard

November 22, 2014 by Archived posts 3 Comments

By Nadia Ahmad |Staff Writer| Sunset Boulevard was alive with the sound of music Nov. 18. I could see spotlights shining and music bumping from a mile away as I was driving to the Hollywood Palladium. The Palladium was packed with hundreds of loyal fans wearing Tegan & Sara shirts that looked like they may have been from previous shows. Waters, an indie-band from San Francisco, warmed up the crowd before Tegan & Sara took the stage. One of the fans in the crowd said, “Waters really impressed me because they had this sort of confidence that not a lot of opening bands have.” The group’s songs were extremely catchy, and I see myself listening to them in the near … [Read more...] about Tegan & Sara shine through Sunset Boulevard

November 13, 2013 by Archived posts 668 Comments

By Mary Moreno |Staff Writer| Finishing their fall tour in Southern California, the indie band Desaparecidos headlined the sold out show in Glasshouse in Pomona and the Henry Fonda theater in Hollywood. The band is fronted by indie musician Conor Oberst from the band Bright Eyes and supported by Landon Hedges on bass guitar, Matt Baum on drums, Denver Dalley on guitar and Ian McElroy on the keyboards. Their music is heavily laced with social and political themes which transcend the catchy guitar riffs. Many fans figured that they would never have the opportunity to see a live performance because they were on hiatus for eight years, but they’re in luck. They have only released … [Read more...] about Desaparecidos plays sold out show
