CSUSB celebrates Annual Transfer Day

By Luz Hernandez |Staff Writer| Community College students looking to transfer to CSUSB were encouraged to become Coyotes during the university's annual Transfer Day Saturday Feb. 23. The event was put on by the university to encourage those students who are currently attending a community college and interested in transferring to CSUSB to get information regarding the programs and services offered here at the university. Some of the programs that students were able to inquire about included, but were not limited to:housing, financial aid, EOP, clubs and organizations. Jitterbugging for music scholarships

By Emerald Collins | Staff Writer| CSUSB’s Music Society (CMS) hosted their first Swing Night on Feb. 28 filled with a night of dance lessons, live jazz and DJ Johnny Boi playing all the hottest hits. Attendees covered the dance floor, while the band played popular jazz. CSUSB Jazz Ensemble performed in front of a full house. The event mixed different music genres from Swing to Funk music and Soul. One vocalist, Denise Tillman, took the lead as the band played along to “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. Alums get all jazzed up

By Brittany Filippini |Staff Writer| Fresh off of a performance at the Palm Desert campus CSUSB’s Alumni Jazz Quartet is thrilled to be captivating crowds once again. Performing songs from their first album, titled “While You Were Out,” AJQ offers a variety of jazz music that will cater to all the different fans. AJQ was formed in 2008 and is comprised of an educator with a doctorate in jazz studies and alumni and faculty from CSUSB.  The quartets members include Gayle Serdan on piano, Joaquin Hernandez on the drums, Eugene Baylon Jaceldo on the bass, and Robert Knop on the tenor saxophone.
