To eat or not to eat: how to keep stress eating from eating you

October 23, 2019 by Madelyn Moritz 32 Comments

The Health and Wellness Center hosted an informational workshop on October 16, 2019 about the effects that stress eating can have on your mental health and well being. With exams, presentations, and busy schedules taking up so much of a student’s life, it might be second nature to grab some good, sit down with your favorite show, and eat.... and eat... and eat some more. Stress eating can happen to anybody and is one of the easiest ways to distract someone from all the chaos happening around you. It often starts with a craving, and before you know it, you’ve eaten a bag of chips, a leftover slice of pizza, and some cookies. And after all the food which you might not have registered … [Read more...] about To eat or not to eat: how to keep stress eating from eating you

Tell society I am beautiful no matter my body size

February 14, 2014 by Archived posts 2 Comments

By Marie Fernandes |Staff Writer| People will always be too big or too small according to the standards that our society has set. According to ourbodiesourselves.com, the average American sees three thousand ads per day. Everything in the United States is based off competition. The biggest competition of all for the general population is centered on how close to perfection you can get your body to look and your body size. We are all exposed to images in the media of models that are photo shopped to look more thin and proportional on a daily basis. These distorted images have become desensitized to us since there is no way to avoid them. It is not often that a person … [Read more...] about Tell society I am beautiful no matter my body size

Choose Soy over Animal Products

January 24, 2014 by Archived posts 5 Comments

By Marlyn Rodriguez |Staff Writer| Not only is soy lower in fat but it also contains less cholesterol than animal based products, according to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). This is why people should choose to consume soy products instead of animal products. Soy is rising in popularity because it has been found to not only be a healthier option but it also provides consumers with a higher portion of their daily vitamins. Thevegetariansite.com agrees that the expansion of products that are free of animal based ingredients have grown to the point where there is a substitute for almost all animal products. Soy is considered to be not only the richest but the … [Read more...] about Choose Soy over Animal Products

Design your own pizza at Pieology in Rancho Cucamonga

October 11, 2013 by Archived posts 4 Comments

By Joel Hanke |Staff Writer| A true sense of the word “personal” pizza is really just that, at the recently opened Pieology Pizzeria in Rancho Cucamonga, where you can concoct something unique just for you! It is located across from the Victoria Garden’s shopping mall off the Day Creek Blvd and Foothill Blvd cross-streets. I recently stopped into San Bernardino County’s first Pieology pizzeria, which opened early September of this year. I had never heard of it and I was unsure of what to expect. Their mission statement says it all, “Be inspired to make a difference one pie at a time.” That difference comes in every customer’s build-their-own personal 10-inch … [Read more...] about Design your own pizza at Pieology in Rancho Cucamonga

Is dieting the answer?

April 19, 2013 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| Surely healthy eating habits can be hard to maintain, especially for college students, so are diets the best option? When most people think about losing weight they think about going on a diet however, that does not have to be the case. Professor Dr. Dorthy Chen Maynard talks about changing one’s lifestyle as opposed to thinking of their weight loss mission as a diet. “Eat anything you want, but stop eating when you’re satisfied,” said Chen Maynard. What one can do is when they attend a restaurant grab a to-go box first and take half of the food away and save the other half for later. Spacing your meals and eating smaller portions throughout the … [Read more...] about Is dieting the answer?

February 27, 2013 by Archived posts 2 Comments

By Megan Spencer |Staff Writer| Top Ramen Noodles and cereal is a typical college student meal. Yet, society pokes fun at the students diet even though people know they are broke. Food is usually the least of student’s worries. By Amanda Wigley |Staff Writer| Whether you like it or not, the Holidays are here. This is the time of year where we often find ourselves eating more and working out less. Below are five tips to help you stay on track with health and fitness during the madness of the holiday season. First, drink plenty of water. A lot of times we forget how important it is to simply drink enough water. Let’s face it, with all the holiday parties we often find ourselves consuming more alcohol than usual. If you up your water intake, it will benefit you in many ways. It will help fill your stomach and make you feel full so you will eat less. Commons gets it right, but should be open late night

January 28, 2012 by Archived posts 1 Comment

By Dominique Sterling |Staff Writer| CSUSB will never become a school known for great school spirit unless it becomes a place where students who live on and off campus have a place to meet and socialize late at night. The main and easiest way people can socialize is around food, and there is no better place on campus to do that than the Commons with their main dining room. I have been attending the CSUSB campus for three years and had never eaten at the Commons until last Thursday. Since then it has become my first choice for a meal. I was very surprised at the amount of healthy yet wholesome choices that the menu offered. Entering the Commons I found it very pleasurable to … [Read more...] about Commons gets it right, but should be open late night

Dishing it up With Diana: Vegan

March 10, 2011 by Archived posts 5 Comments

By Diana Cansino Features Editor I walked in not expecting much. I mean it was like I kidnapped myself, and instead of going to a place filled with hamburgers, mashed potatoes and bacon, I ended up in a vegan place. It also didn’t help that I was greeted by a tiny glass. I was hungry as hell, and the fact that the cat was taunting me, and waving its small paw back and forth really rubbed me the wrong way. I ended up here because my vegan friend was hungry too, and I decided to sympathize with him and go eat some place where he would be able to enjoy something besides water. So, I sat at the table and prayed … yes prayed that perhaps they had one, just one option that was made … [Read more...] about Dishing it up With Diana: Vegan
