One Injured and One Arrested in a Gunman Incident on an Omnitrans Bus

By Olivia Ramsey There were tense moments on an Omnitrans bus in San Bernardino on Friday, January 27, when a shot was fired prompting an intense police response. The bus contained adults and children, and the incident led to one man being injured and another being arrested.  San Bernardino Police responded to streets Base Line and E around 6 p.m. upon receiving the report of a man with a gun aboard an Omnitrans bus. Monterey Park Shooting and the Bravery of a Local Hero

On Jan. 21, before the celebration of the Lunar New Year, Monterey Park resulted in a tragedy when a man opened fire killing ten people and critically injuring eleven others inside the Star Ballroom Dance Studio. The dance studio was known as a sanctuary for many older Asian Americans and immigrants to come together in the form of dance. Star Ballroom Dance Studio has provided many newcomers and regulars with a sense of a tight-knit community and is a staple to the city of Monterey Park. CSUSB VOICE Peers organize #ENOUGH walkout

As schools across the nation participated in National Walkout Day to protest mass shootings and promote the enforcement of stricter gun control laws, the CSUSB VOICE peers held their own walkout on the Pfau Library Lawn on March 14. This event came one month after the deadly Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, which claimed 17 victims. The #Enough and #NeverAgain movements have inspired a call to action against gun violence, and as a means to honor the lives lost during the Valentine's Day massacre. Background checks, mental health need to be at the center of gun control debate

In the aftermath of the tragedy that struck Newtown, Connecticut claiming the lives of 20 children and six elementary school employees and the Aurora Colorado massacre, it’s not hard to see that the issue of gun control can no longer be ignored. There needs to be a common ground between public safety and gun control.
