Baseball to start season at home

January 30, 2017 by Lauren 2 Comments

By Lauren Jennings |Sports Editor| The Coyote baseball team, which got its start in 1987, is about to start its 31st season. The team has had its ups and downs throughout the years, as all teams do, but this year's team is ready to pick up from where they left off last year.  They ended last season by losing two games in the CCAA championships, so the team is looking for redemption and a shot at the CCAA title.  "I truly believe this team can make another appearance in the CCAA conference tournament," said current head coach David Martinez. "The top six teams out of 12 make it, so if our team keeps making the strides it is making, we have a chance," added Martinez. The … [Read more...] about Baseball to start season at home

May 12, 2016 by Kaila Morales 4 Comments

By Kaila Morales |Staff Writer| The CSUSB Baseball team secured a 5-1 win on April 9 against Cal State Monterey Bay, who are ranked 15th in CCAA baseball. The Coyotes faced the Otters in a doubleheader, earning a win and a loss on April 9. Their third match-up, that was supposed to take place April 10, was canceled due to rain. Game 1 resulted in a 4-1 loss for starting pitcher Tyler Wells, who allowed an unearned run to start things off in the first inning. Wells allowed a three-run homer in the third to CSUMB’s right fielder Justin Flores. Wells retired the next nine batters he faced with four strikeouts after he gave up the home run. In seven innings, he had a total … [Read more...] about Baseball wins one, loses one in Monterey Bay

By Suriel Chavez |Staff Writer| The Coyote baseball team had an exciting weekend against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers, playing in a three game series with one win and two losses. However, the Coyotes are still confident in doing better in their next game. Coyotes started off strong with a 2-1 win on April 16. He walked the lead-off hitter on five pitches, but had a total of eight strikeouts. The Pioneers struck first, scoring their first and only run in the fifth inning. Baseball wins two on the road

March 1, 2016 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Jackie Monarrez |Staff Writer| The Coyote baseball team took to the road, playing against the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos Feb. 12, then playing a double header Feb. 13 against the UC San Diego Tritons. They ended their weekend against Texas-Permian Basin Feb. 14. Coyotes split the weekend series, winning two games and losing two. The non-conference game against the Broncos was an excellent match up having both teams' best pitchers starting the game. Junior Tyler Wells pitched five innings for the Coyotes striking out 10 Bronco players, but the Coyotes took an 8-2 loss. When asked what Wells would have done differently in this game to possibly take the victory over the … [Read more...] about Baseball wins two on the road
