The Coyote athletic department was recognized in the fall of 1984 as a part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The university currently has 11 different sports teams. There is men's baseball, basketball, golf and soccer. Women's sports include basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, volleyball, track and field, cheer and dance. The campus used to have a tennis and water polo team but ended up letting the two go. However, there are hopes to soon have a women's golf team. History of Coyote softball
By Taylor Glaze |Staff Writer| The Coyote softball program turns 29 this year. It started in 1987, 22 years after Cal State San Bernardino opened in '65. The Women's College World Series, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, began in 1982, and it was not long after (five years) that CSUSB was able to create a softball program. From 1987 to 1989, the team was under head coach Jo Anne Bly. She coached for three consecutive seasons, winning a total of 62 games and losing 42. David Martinez with successful first season
By Taylor Glaze |Staff Writer| The Coyote baseball program has had major success after previous seasons thanks to new head coach David Martinez, who has helped turn the team around. Four months ago, the California Collegiate Athlete Association [CCAA] coaches believed that Cal State San Bernardino would struggle in its first season under Martinez, after finishing the last two seasons winning only 23 games combined. Softball seniors say goodbye to CSUSB

Infielder Melissa Roberts and outfielder Arianna Hernandez have played their final game for the Coyotes softball program. Roberts joined the organization her freshman year in 2013 after lettering all four seasons and earning first-team All-Citrus Belt League honors as a senior from Yucaipa High School. Softball sweeps finale
By Taylor Glaze |Staff Writer| The Coyote softball team finished their season with a sweep of the Cal State San Marcos Cougars (CSUSM), to earn them more than 30 wins for only the fourth time in the last 18 years. "It felt great. To beat a team in the CCAA 4 straight times is a huge accomplishment," said head coach Jim Maier. "We started the season strong, then fell off course in the month of March, but rebounded this last month by winning 14 of our last 18 games. We won 23 CCAA conference games," said Maier. Those 23 games were a part of history as this was the first time that team has won over 20 games two years in a row. Women’s basketball falls to CSUDH
By Jackie Monarrez |Staff Writer| The Coyote women's basketball team suffered a 87-73 loss against the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros on Jan. 23. Coyotes Senior Brianna Harden and Junior Summer Ramsey lead the team in points with 12 points each. While Coyote Sophomore Loli Gomez lead the team in nine rebounds, a career high for Gomez. Coyotes struggled throughout the game to keep up with the Toros. At the end of the first quarter, Toros were in the lead 21-10 and held that lead throughout the game. In the second quarter the Toros had a 15 point lead with five minutes left in the quarter. Soccer falls in double overtime
By Yesica Chavez | Staff Writer CSUSB Coyotes men's soccer lost in double overtime to the Sonoma State University (SSU) Seawolves on Oct. 29 at the Coyote Premier Field, which cost them a spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament.
