Delta Sigma Chi informs students about drunk driving

January 19, 2014 by Archived posts 65 Comments

By Diana Ramos |Staff Writer| Delta Sigma Chi is hosting their 8th Annual Drunk Driving Awareness Event, Delta Sigma Chi vs. Drunk Driving. This event will be hosted on Jan. 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Student Union’s Event Center. Kevin Brooks, a survivor of a drunk driving car accident, will be the guest speaker of the event. Brooks, who is now paralyzed from the waist down, wants to share his story with all of us and how drunk driving has affected his life. This event began eight years ago when a fellow fraternity sister of Delta Sigma Chi was in a car accident caused by drunk driving. Although she was the only sober passenger, she did not make it out alive. Delta … [Read more...] about Delta Sigma Chi informs students about drunk driving

It’s time to step up that ‘Yote pride

October 7, 2012 by Archived posts

By Megan Davis |Staff Writer| What do USC and UCLA have in common besides residing in California and astronomical tuition fees? Two words: school pride. You can see students of these universities practically bleeding the colors of their institutions and showing up by the thousands to their school functions, specifically anything that involves a field or a court. So why is it that compared to these schools, our own CSUSB is seems to fall so short in school spirit? Some may say it is because we do not top the lists of best party schools or because we lack a notorious sports team or, possibly, because we are a commuter school and not too many people stick around campus after … [Read more...] about It’s time to step up that ‘Yote pride

Don’t be fooled, Greek life is more than just a party

May 6, 2012 by Archived posts

By Aunjolay Lambert |Staff Writer| I feel some people don’t understand what you can gain by being in a sorority or fraternity. I think that sometimes TV and movies can alter a person’s view of reality and I think in this case Greek organizations get the brunt of that. For example movies like “Old School” and “Animal House” can suggest that fraternities and sororities are around just to have a good time. “Some of the negative things I’ve heard are that the girls are easy and the guys just like to drink and party,” said Ashlynne Macan, a member of a co-ed fraternity at CSUSB. Last summer I went on vacation to Virginia and my cousin, who is in a sorority, showed me around her campus … [Read more...] about Don’t be fooled, Greek life is more than just a party

Greek Speak with Lindsey Martinovich

April 14, 2011 by Archived posts 66 Comments

By Lindsey Martinovich |Staff Writer| It’s “paying for friends”, it’s “paying to drink” and it’s “paying to be promiscuous” are the most common reactions I get from people when they find out that I am in a sorority. These common misconceptions are so gross and unrealistic that they leave me speechless. Half of the time I find myself sarcastically shaking my head yes to such reactions, because I’ve found that my passionate two hour explanations of what being a part of a Greek organization  truly means can be a bit overwhelming to outsiders; plus the conversation gets a bit awkward when I start crying and yelling… I’m kidding. I am also a realist and know that my defense falls upon … [Read more...] about Greek Speak with Lindsey Martinovich
