Experiencing Florida

June 9, 2016 by Steffanie Martinez 326 Comments

By Steffanie Martinez |Staff Writer| There are vast differences between Florida and California. Firstly, the thing people comment the most on is the weather. Whenever I meet guests while working my shift, and they find out I’m from California, their first comment is always, “What are you doing here? Why would you leave?” I never realized how great California actually is until I got to see it from an outsiders’ perspective. Many of my friends tell me that California is “the dream.” The humidity and constant tropical rain is not something I would like to take back home with me. Yet living in Orlando in particular, has so much beauty that it is hard to allow the weather to … [Read more...] about Experiencing Florida

Experience: Opportunity of a lifetime

May 12, 2016 by Steffanie Martinez 7 Comments

By Steffanie Martinez |Staff Writer| Growing up, the idea of working for Disney seemed like a far-fetched dream, hearing about the Disney College Program was the first step to making that dream a reality. As a communication major, having the chance of working with Disney, one of the best known media and entertainment companies in the world, seemed like an unbelievable opportunity. They have associations with ABC Television Group, ESPN, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, Lucas Films and Marvel Entertainment, meaning if I pursue a career after graduation with the company, there are countless routes I can choose to take. Once I heard of the Disney College Program, I made it a goal to … [Read more...] about Experience: Opportunity of a lifetime

May 27, 2012 by Archived posts

By Amy Cutillo |Staff Writer| With the Coyote baseball season over and less than a month left until the MLB Draft, left-handed ace Cory Caruso is waiting to see if he gets the call. Caruso, who is a senior, was drafted last year by the Florida [now Miami] Marlins, but with good reason he decided to turn down the offer. “I didn’t sign because I thought I needed to improve, and I wanted to come back even better this year,” said Caruso. Looks like his hard work is paying off. Recently, he met up with the Marlins, and they are still very interested in him. “I’d like to sign with the Marlins. They drafted me last year and a lot of it is about loyalty to me.” Other teams interested in … [Read more...] about CSUSB pitcher Cory Caruso looks to get drafted by MLB team

Skittles are suspicious?

April 21, 2012 by Archived posts

By Shanieka Perrier |Staff Writer| What is so suspicious about iced tea and a bag of skittles? A 17-year-old boy holding only those items and wearing a “hoodie” was shot and killed ion Feb. 26 in Sanford, Florida.  Trayvon Martin was shot by George Zimmerman after he saw the boy walking around in his neighborhood and found him “suspicious.” I believe that Zimmerman brought this situation upon himself. According to the LA Times, he was instructed to go home and let the police handle the situation. In my opinion he acted purely on suspicion and ignored the police, as though he was above the law. I have a problem with Zimmerman never initially being arrested. There was a dead body … [Read more...] about Skittles are suspicious?
