By Gabriel Ramos |Contributing Writer| The fact that the school has a baseball team off campus is a fact that many aren't aware of. Most students know that the Coussoulis Arena is home to our volleyball and basketball teams. The Coyote Premier Field hosts our soccer teams and the Coyote Softball Park is for the softball team. Fiscalini Field has served as Cal State San Bernardino’s baseball field for quite some time now. It was built back in 1934 and opened in 1936. Multiple Major League Baseball teams used the facility for their spring training games upon its opening. It was formerly known as Perris Hill Park Ball Field, but was renamed in 1993 after John … [Read more...] about Baseball plays off campus

Winter and spring athletic facilities back in use
By Yera Nanan |Staff Writer| Though many of our winter and spring sports are outdoor sports and aren't played on school grounds, the fields we use have a unique history of their own. The baseball team uses Fiscalini Field for practice and home games. The 3,500 capacity field is located only 15 minutes away from CSUSB, right off of East Highland Avenue. Fiscalini Field was first built in 1934 and originally named after Fredrick Thomas Perris, who helped construct the early stages of the city as a railroad developer. The field was then renovated in 1993 and renamed after city native John Fiscalini, who found success playing for San Bernardino High School, Cal Berkeley and the … [Read more...] about Winter and spring athletic facilities back in use
Baseball falls to Tritons

Kickin it with Kelley
By Ryan Navaroli |Staff Writer| Kerrey Kelley enters his final season as the Coyotes ace pitcher. After graduating from Palmdale High School in 2010, Kelley knew CSUSB was the right choice. “I chose CSUSB because it was close to home and I liked how the pitchers have always succeeded here. I believe it has worked out well for me,” said Kelley. Kelley has always had supporters fill the stands at his games. “My family and my girlfriend come to every single game. My grandparents have also never missed a game. They have had my back since day one. The support I get from all of them means so much to me,” said Kelley. Kelley reflects on the biggest thrill that college baseball has … [Read more...] about Kickin it with Kelley
Baseball knocking it out of the park
By Ryan Navaroli |Staff Writer| Coyotes men baseball team excited the crowd as they won 9-5 in their final game against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers. The Coyotes split the series 2-2. Senior first baseman Richard Mount exceeded all expectations Sunday afternoon with just one swing of the bat. Mount’s pinch hit grand slam in the 8th inning capped a six-run rally for the Coyotes’ thrilling come up from behind victory. “I was really just looking for something I could put a barrel on. I knew I was not going to see a lot of fastballs after already hitting a homerun in the series. I hit a slider that hung just enough,” said Mount. Freshman pitcher Jake Meloche went the … [Read more...] about Baseball knocking it out of the park
Baseball firing up their game
By Ryan Navaroli |Staff Writer| Coyote’s men’s baseball team suffered a tough loss against the Cal Baptist University (CBU) Lancers, losing 3-1 in their home opener. Freshman pitcher Jake Meloche got the start for the Coyotes home opener. Meloche pitched solid giving the Coyotes a chance to win in his first start of the 2014 season. Meloche yielded seven hits, two walks, and two earned runs in his four innings of play. “Getting the home opener was a great honor to get, especially as a freshman. My mind set was just to get off to a good start, make good pitches, and to get some momentum on our side,” said Meloche. “CBU is a well coached team that does not make a lot of … [Read more...] about Baseball firing up their game
