A New Yorker in Cali: Dorm Life
By Angelice Romero |Staff Writer| I feel that the most important part of transitioning as an exchange student is decorating your dorm. Living in the dorms for the first time, I've noticed that these rooms are so bare. I felt like the four white walls were talking to me. For my first week, I had absolutely nothing in my room; it was so painfully bare that I felt like it wasn't really mine. At first I started simple, putting color hooks on my walls, hanging stuff on it and then gradually adding posters and knick-knacks. I had a conversation with my roommates about decorating our rooms and making it feel more like home and we came to a conclusion that these walls were just … [Read more...] about A New Yorker in Cali: Dorm Life
A New Yorker in Cali: Starting Over
By Angelice Romero |Staff Writer| When I decided to do the National Student Exchange program from Buffalo State College to CSUSB, I did not think that starting over was going to be the hardest part. Granted, I moved to a state I’ve never been in, a city I’ve only heard from TV and movies and a school where I knew no one. I went from living off campus in freezing Buffalo, NY to a dorm in sunny San Bernardino, Calif. not knowing what to bring, what the weather would be like, what I need for my dorm and so forth. I got to Calif. noticing that, dang, maybe I should have brought some of my coats, scarfs and hats from Buffalo. When I went shopping for my dorm … [Read more...] about A New Yorker in Cali: Starting Over
French-Canadian students journey to the Golden State
By Marc-Olivier Drouin |Staff Writer| At the beginning of September, 15 French Canadians and myself packed our lives into suitcases, left the cold province of Quebec and took the road in direction of The Golden State for a semester abroad. I came here by car with two other friends, 3,813 miles, three time zones and 15 days stuck in a Volkswagen Golf – the road trip of a lifetime. A plane was not an option for us since we wanted to cross the United States in order to discover the country. It was one hell of an adventure where we were given the chance to discover the geographic diversity of the States. Our favorite parts of the road trip included Chicago, the Badlands National Park in … [Read more...] about French-Canadian students journey to the Golden State
Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost in Chicago
By R. Anthony Diaz |Asst. Features Editor| Mobsters, trains, machine guns and godly skyscrapers. Most people associate dark things to Chicago but it is anything but. In fact, looking in you really notice its true beauty when you’re sailing on Lake Michigan and see the skyline. All of a sudden the city sounds become faint, as the sun sets in the East and the city lights up like a pile of diamonds glistening on the horizon. Although it is a beautiful city it still has its flaws; I did not realize I had stepped into risky territory until it was too late. I found myself working for Tony Demasi, founder of Tsunami Capital and the Tsunami Foundation. Along with many driven men … [Read more...] about Diaries of a Jet Setter: A guy’s guide to getting lost in Chicago
