This girl was on the phone and her brother was a police officer, and she was freaking out and crying, and everybody was stressed out," said Reyes. "Everybody thinks it's not going to happen to them," said Reyes. "And it was such a random day, a random time, you would never think it would happen so close to home," said Reyes. SMSU potential expansion plans
By Emily Anne Espinosa |Staff Writer| The SMSU expansion project, "Re-invent," plans to re-purpose the existing Student Union and also expand the project north of the current building. "The current SMSU was renovated at a time when the enrollment was 12,000 students and today over 20,000 students are enrolled at CSUSB," stated SMSU Board Chair, Diana Hernandez Aguilar. The main purpose behind the expansion is the need to increase space and facilities for students, as enrollment and amount of daily visitors continues to increase each year. Let's Talk About Sex! was hosted by the Santos Manuel Student Union (SMSU) Cross Cultural Center, Student Health Center (SHC), and Psychology Counseling Center. Last year, the LA Times covered the urban living conditions of the city in the seven part series, "San Bernardino: Broken City", as well as the coverage of the Dec. 2 shootings. To celebrate, the Women's Resource Center (WRC) hosted a reception on Oct. 11 at the SMSU Fourplex to welcome McMahan. "I think her being the first women [as Provost] at CSUSB is very exciting," said student and intern at the WRC, Cassandra Chavez. For Dr. John Yaun, Executive Director of the Department of Housing and Residential Education, the groundbreaking ceremony symbolized, "One of the largest building projects in history of this university." The housing project will cost $95.8 million and expected to be finished before the start of the 2018-2019 academic school year, according to CSUSB News.
