The Evolution of EDM

November 24, 2015 by Archived posts 10 Comments

By Abel Arriola | Staff Writer | With knob-turners like David Guetta, and Tiesto, these iconic DJs helped grow Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and made it what it is today. Guetta was spinning turntables in '88s and Tiësto in the '90s. Still alive today, these two DJs continue to be founding fathers in electronic music, according to CNN. DJ's are the ones behind the music. They mixing songs with one another in a continuous set. Its roots began with DJs employed by discotheque clubs and play music for the crowd. "By the late ’80s to early ’90s, there has been increased popularity among the table turners themselves. DJs, although not producers, began to produce more of their own … [Read more...] about The Evolution of EDM

The Good Side of Escape: PSYCHO CIRCUS

November 8, 2015 by Archived posts 24 Comments

By Abel Arriola |Staff Writer| It was 3:30 p.m. as I started seeing the NOS event center workers leading us to the parking lot; I couldn't hold in the excitement, I was dying to park my car and get to the entrance. Thousands of people flooded the streets as I ran towards the opening. While many people were out trick-or-treating, attending costume parties and enjoying Halloween on a Saturday night, I had the chance to be a part of Escape: Psycho Circus. From bikinis, to pasties, Batman, The Joker, Mario and Luigi, bravery (because of the pasties) and creativity, the list of costumes does not stop. One costume that stood out to me was a guy that came with a group of girls; he … [Read more...] about The Good Side of Escape: PSYCHO CIRCUS

The Santos Manuel Student Union (SMSU) Program Board and CSUSB’s DJ Output Club brought the wonder with Coyote Wonderland, letting students rave the hell out of their minds and party during an unforgettable night on May 8. Coachella the best decision

May 7, 2015 by Archived posts 20 Comments

By Itzayana Jimenez |Staff Writer| On May 16, 2014, I made one of the greatest decisions: I bought my Coachella weekend one ticket. Coachella is Southern California’s biggest annual music festival. It is a three-day festival located in the Mojave desert known for having a large variety of both mainstream and indie artists, hipsters with over-priced clothes, and an enormous amount of celebrity attendees. A few of the fashion trends at Coachella this year were floppy sun hats, bikini tops, cut-off shorts, and Bohemian dresses. Coachella 2015 was my first time attending the festival and it exceeded any of my expectations. To start off, as I was driving into the festival‘s … [Read more...] about Coachella the best decision

Feel the loving embrace of Crush

February 21, 2015 by Archived posts 479 Comments

By Alejandro Cardenas |Staff Writer| It was Valentine's Day and romance was in the air. While many were treating their dates to intimate dinners or cinematic productions, I was taking mine to the sold-out Crush event. Crush is an annual electronic dance music event presented by Insomniac, the organization that gained popularity over the past few years because of its world-famous Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC). The event took place at San Bernardino's National Orange Show (NOS) Events Center and I showed up just as the last few rays of sunlight made the sky glow and set the mood for the Valentine's night. The event began at 6 p.m. and, as I spoke to numerous people waiting to … [Read more...] about Feel the loving embrace of Crush

Coachella, Stagecoach, Beyond Wonderland, Crush, and Epicenter are happening at local Southern California venues. Music festivals like these are the perfect place for students to unwind from the building stress of schoolwork and essays. “I go to festivals for the experience and the positive vibes,” said Ayde Rico. There’s nothing quite like meeting up with your friends, dressing up in your favorite festival gear and dancing the night away to the music of your favorite artists alongside thousands of other fans who are there for the love of music.” The … [Read more...] about Festivals season approaches

EDM unites people and spreads love

November 15, 2014 by Archived posts 373 Comments

By Wendy Martinez |Staff Writer| Drug use and dangerous raves have always been negative stereotypes about the music genre, electric dance music (EDM). "Don't follow the hype, follow your heart," is what many people say about this music genre that don't believe in the negative judgments. "I definitely agree with this. It upsets me when I hear people talking about going to these festivals and not going for the music but just because it's what the 'crowd' is up to nowadays and go for other purposes rather than what these festivals are meant for. Uniting those who have a passion for this genre and celebrating it as one," said CSUSB student Nelita Betanco. The birth of EDM started in … [Read more...] about EDM unites people and spreads love
