January 31, 2014 by Archived posts 5 Comments

By Marlyn Rodriguez |Staff Writer| Nine out of 10 adults in North America consume some form of caffeine on a daily basis. We are too dependent on caffeine and it is not as beneficial to us as we think. According to the Mayo Clinic, taking in 200 to 300 milligrams of caffeine equivalent to about two to four cups of coffee a day is not harmful. Christine Weinkauff, a psychology professor on campus, is an avid coffee drinker but said, “In life, moderation is key. There are benefits to a couple cups of coffee a day but getting beyond two or three cups, the benefits begin to become outweighed by the consequences.” Healthy amounts of caffeine has shown to be … [Read more...] about Caution too much caffeine is not a good thing

Infront of Pfau Library

By Angela E. Rodriguez |Staff Writer| Students looking for a quick fix  to pull an all-nighter for finals should be cautious. As finals approach, we all suffer from sleep deprivation due to late night cramming. For many it means stocking up on energy drinks like Red Bull, Monster, Rock Stars and so forth to help them keep motivated to study the entire night without feeling tired. Even though these popular drinks help energize their consumers, they have harmful side effects which include jitters, changes in heart rate and according to healthmad.com a “crash phase.” “Many people get sick in the ‘crash phase.’ [Their] energy will be gone, which makes [them] think that another energy … [Read more...] about Energy drinks destroys teeth enamel, health

Dinner in the Desert: The Salted Pig

February 17, 2012 by Archived posts 164 Comments

By Eric Brown |Online Editor| It's my intention to bring to light some of the finer places to eat around the Inland Empire in this Dinner in the Desert blog. This week I will look at The Salted Pig in Riverside, CA; click on the map to the right for directions and check out my blog below.
