By Tricia Kang |Staff Writer| Under the Senate defense bill, passed on November 1, women turning 18 on or after January 1, 2018, would be forced to register for Selective Service (SS), as men must do now. "As a person who believes in equality, if I had to do it to then I would do it. Having no problem living in the U.S. as we want equal rights we should equality in both men and women including the military," said Betzy Aceves, a CSUSB Cadet Company Commander. Currently, U.S. law requires most male citizens and immigrants between the ages 18 to 25 to register in the SS system. Cavaliers Win Again

By Donte Medder |Staff Writer| Coming into this years draft with only a 1.7 percent chance of winning the number one pick, the Cleveland Cavaliers did just that, securing the pick for the third time in four years. After suffering through 49 losses in the 2014 season, the Cavaliers were most likely to pick around the ninth spot in this year’s draft. The Milwaukee Bucks, who had the worst record in the NBA this year, have to settle for selecting second. This years amazing depth of talent includes franchise changing talent. Rams make history with Sam

By Luis Petty |Staff Writer| Michael Sam, an openly gay player in the National Football League Draft was selected by the St. Louis Rams on Saturday, May 10, 2014. This NFL draft is being considered a point of progress for American football. Sam is from the small town of Hitchcock, Texas, a town 40 miles southeast of Houston, Texas. According to The New York Times, in an article by Joe Drape, Steve Elder and Billy Witz, Sam didn’t have an easy childhood. Many professional athletes attempt to make the jump to another sport, however a majority of these athletes fail to find success in their new sport. Being gay should not affect NFL draft pick standing

By Devin Ramos |Staff Writer| The University of Missouri defensive lineman, Michael Sam’s decision to come out should not affect his position in the NFL draft. On Feb. 10, the 24-year-old athlete revealed that he is “an openly proud gay man” and he wants to be in the NFL. It is unfortunate that people are speculating that Sam’s announcement could drop his position in draft. Sports Illustrated reports that prior to his announcement he was projected as a mid-to-late round draft pick. CSUSB pitcher Cory Caruso looks to get drafted by MLB team

By Amy Cutillo |Staff Writer| With the Coyote baseball season over and less than a month left until the MLB Draft, left-handed ace Cory Caruso is waiting to see if he gets the call. Caruso, who is a senior, was drafted last year by the Florida [now Miami] Marlins, but with good reason he decided to turn down the offer. “I didn’t sign because I thought I needed to improve, and I wanted to come back even better this year,” said Caruso. Caruso hopes to get second chance at big league dreams

By Britney Carter |Staff Writer| After declining to pursue a career in the MLB last season in order to finish his last year at CSUSB, Corey Caruso has great expectations for himself and his team this upcoming season. Caruso was drafted in the 50th round of the 2011 MLB draft by the Miami Marlins last year.
