Rowen Concepcion Rowen Concepcion is a graduate student here at CSUSB. He will be graduating on Friday, June 13, 2014 with a Master's degree in computer science. Graduation fees hit students’ pockets
By Aimee Villalpando |Staff Writer| Fifteen of the 23 CSU campus graduates face costly fees to receive their diploma and/or participate in commencement, reports the Oakland Tribune. According to ABC News, more than a dozen California state universities have raised diploma prices and the amount of fees in the past few years. While CSUSB requires a non-refundable $35 fee to be submitted with the application to participate in commencement, Cal State East Bay charges its students $45. San Francisco State’s graduation fee was $40 two years ago but now charges its students $100, not including $45 tickets for attendees. By Angela Rodriguez IStaff Writer| CSUSB’s Career Development Center (CDC) held the Social and Behavioral Sciences Career/Graduate Fair on Jan. 30 in the Santos Manuel Student Union (SMSU) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The career fair was designed to introduce students to professionals in the working world and expose them to different types of jobs they can acquire with a degree in social and behavioral sciences. “I didn’t even know this event was going on today but there’s a lot of employers here. Mother-daughter duo shine at CSUSB
By Gabbie Corral |Staff Writer| Kimley Jones and her daughter, Kourtney, have been attending CSUSB together for the last five years and have been loving every minute of it. They will both graduate together this June—Kimley with a master’s degree in education and Kourtney with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. “I love that even though [CSUSB] is a decent-sized campus, it’s still like a small campus because the professors have been so nice to me and they know who I am. I love that personal touch,” said Kimley when asked what her favorite thing about being a student was. That is good advice for those graduating next week because unemployment rates are up to 11.9 percent in California and 13.3 percent in San Bernardino County, according to the Employment Development Dept. of California.
