Emily Anne Espinosa | Staff Writer | CSUSB won $2,500 as a first place prize from The National Peanut Board’s Snack Attack Competition, which will go toward The Den food pantry.The Office of Community Engagement (OCE) at CSUSB competed with 24 other universities with campus food pantries in The National Peanut Board’s Snack Attack competition, where positive messages about peanuts as a healthy snack were to be promoted through social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram.   CSUSB beat out larger universities such as Pennsylvania State University, Diane Podolske, director of OCE, sent an email to campus expressing how she wasn’t expecting to win stating, “our campus food … [Read more...] about CSUSB Snack Attack Champions

“The DEN” helps homeless CSUSB students

By Daniela Rueda |Staff Writer| Many students across 23 California State University (CSU) campuses have been identified as lacking basic necessities ,such as food, housing and hygiene products, according to the Los Angeles Times. CSUSB started The Delivering Emergency Nourishment (DEN) CSUSB Food Pantry in January 2015, which assists students who face food scarcity. Since then, the DEN has reportedly helped 50 students who have been living in their cars and on friends’ couches and approximately 425 returning students overall, according to Diane Podolske, director of the DEN. CSUSB recognized by President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

By Christopher Johnson |Staff Writer| CSUSB gained recognition for the 2010 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the fifth straight year. Podolske nominated for USDA fellowship

By Michele Cruz |Staff Writer| Diane Podolske was nominated by President Dr. Albert Karnig for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Eligio “Kika” De La Garza Fellowship program in Washington this summer. The Fellowship program was named after the first Hispanic congressman of Texas Eligio “Kika” De la Garza II.  The fellowship was established in 1998 and it is associated with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Leadership Groups. “I am really grateful that the administration accepted my application, representing southern California is great,” said Diane Podolske, the director of Community University Partnerships and Service Learning.
