By Veronica Vicente |Staff Writer| Hollywood Forever Cemetery, hosted their 17th annual "Dia de Los Muertos" festival on Oct. 29. The festivities started at noon and ran until midnight and ticket prices ranged from $10 for children and $20 for adults. This was a popular event, with thousands of people attending. The streets were full of vendors selling home cooked foods and sweets, as well as sugar skull masks and accessories. The crowds were full of people wearing vibrant colors and the traditional sugar skull makeup. Knott’s Scary Farm
By Mireya Rodriguez |Staff Writer| Three different scare zones and 10 different mazes could be found at Knott’s Scary Farm from Sep. 24 through Oct. 31. In the Ghost Town Scare Zone, there were “Trick or Treat,” “Voodoo,” “Paranormal Inc.,” “The Tooth Fairy,” “Forevermore,” and “Pinocchio Unstrung.” Our group attended all of the mazes in Ghost Town. Ghost Town was the biggest scare zone with six mazes, and home to the most “monsters” scaring people at random. Our group was constantly scared by different creatures in Ghost Town, with their loud noises, creepy voices, and scary costumes. In many Latin cultures across Mexico and Central America, El Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a celebration to commemorate the dead and the cycle of life and death. El Dia de Los Muertos is a widely celebrated holiday across Latin America and in highly Latino- populated areas in the United States. CSUSB celebrates Dia de Los Muertos
By Joel Hanke | Staff Writer | Mexican culture and tradition sweeps John M. Pfau Library off its feet for the Dia de Los Muertos holiday. Pfau Library’s noontime lecture honored Mexican heritage this past week by hosting two events demonstrating Hispanic art, music and cultural tradition. The first event, “Celebramos A Mexico” was hosted by professional artist Nancy Nieto on Oct. 28 from 12 to 1 p.m. to explore the many aspects important to the Mexican heritage like art and music. Nieto graduated from UCSB with an art degree in drawing and painting.
