By Diana Ramos |Staff Writer| Delta Sigma Chi is hosting their 8th Annual Drunk Driving Awareness Event, Delta Sigma Chi vs. Drunk Driving. This event will be hosted on Jan. 21 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Student Union’s Event Center. Kevin Brooks, a survivor of a drunk driving car accident, will be the guest speaker of the event. Brooks, who is now paralyzed from the waist down, wants to share his story with all of us and how drunk driving has affected his life. This event began eight years ago when a fellow fraternity sister of Delta Sigma Chi was in a car accident caused by drunk driving. She chose CSUSB because it was close to home, but she quickly became involved with the clubs that the campus had to offer. As a sister of Delta Sigma Chi Coed Fraternity Inc., Ashylnne has done her fair share in contributing her time and energy to the fraternity. She has held numerous positions, but most importantly she was president during 2010-2011. Coyote Karma raised $430 in student donations and along with the Karnig Scholarship Challenge Match, that amount was doubled to a $860 estimate. The money that was raised will go towards student scholarships. The event was held by the public relations practicum course, Comm 243D, in cooperation with Development and Annual Giving, Student Leadership and Development and Associated Students Inc. The event brought out a lot of people to participate including the men from Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Phi Beta Sigma. It was intended to raise awareness of sexual assault, abuse and rape that happen everyday to women.
