November 3 is approaching and with that comes a division in people’s political ideas. One of the beautiful things about this country is that you are entitled to your opinion. Whether or not people agree or disagree with your opinion is their business, but your opinion is your voice and no one has the right to tell you otherwise. A form of tyranny is when somebody tells you that you are wrong because you think one way when you should be thinking another way. With that in mind, if you are a conservative or liberal student at CSUSB and you are worried about your political opinion damaging friendships, don't be afraid. Don't be afraid to lose friendships over your opinion and your … [Read more...] about Advice: Sharing wisdom with Conservatives and Liberals at CSUSB

Student Perspectives on the Presidential Election
By Hairuo Yi |Staff Writer| With election day right around the corner, CSUSB students are discussing propositions and our potential president. Students have their opinions about Propositions (Prop.) 64 and 63, which discusses marijuana legalization and gun control. Some students agree with Prop. 64 which legalizes marijuana; they think marijuana is similar to alcohol or tobacco. “Marijuana being legal is not a bad thing at all,” said biochemistry student, Brandan Garcia. Students think Prop.63, which would require anyone who wishes to purchase ammunition to first acquire a permit, is unnecessary. Students also have comments about Prop. 56, which increases the tax on … [Read more...] about Student Perspectives on the Presidential Election

Atheism is not a religion
By Daniel DeMarco |Copy Editor| It’s disheartening to hear otherwise-intelligent people say stupid things. It has come to my attention recently that a large community of people argue that atheism is a religion, or even that it’s up for debate. To my dismay, there are even nonbelievers who make this claim. From what I’ve experienced, this claim is usually made with some slippery maneuvering of words and defining of concepts which seem to always be based on subjective interpretations, not actual definitions. Oddly enough, these interpretations end up quite convenient to the individual asserting the argument. For some it is as easy as presenting some comical analogies to … [Read more...] about Atheism is not a religion

Health care should be priority for all
By Alejandro Cardenas |Staff Writer| The Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, is good for America because it has, and will continue to insure millions of people who did not previously have access to healthcare. Although some people have experienced inconveniences, the Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that the national rate of uninsured Americans has already dropped by a full percentage point since last year, and state medicaid enrollment has increased by 14 percent. Although a one percent increase may not seem like much, I believe that any increase in the amount of insured Americans is significant, and this number will more than likely grow as word of its benefits … [Read more...] about Health care should be priority for all
CSUSB hosts mayoral debate
By Angel |Staff Writer| An overflow of people crowding into the hallway of CSUSB’s theater as mayoral candidates Carey Davis and Wendy McCammack answered questions from the public and panel on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014. San Bernardino Generation Now partnered with CSUSB, The Sun, and the CSUSB chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society to host the debate and town hall meeting. The event drew more people than the 188-seat theater could hold making an overflow room required to accommodate the excess guests. Both candidates started off by praising the audience for their turnout and … [Read more...] about CSUSB hosts mayoral debate
Debt ceiling rises on Capitol Hill
By Eric Brown |Managing Editor| After arduous debate in both houses of Congress, the Senate gave final approval to legislation to raise the nation's debt by $2.4 trillion in conjunction with cutting federal deficits. Having already passed Monday through the House, President Barack Obama is likely to sign the bill into law wiftly after months of debate have stalemated many efforts in Washington to move further in economic recover. As the trenches of partisan gridlock were dug, Obama and House Speaker John Boehner both proved unlikely allies in a hotly debated topic. While GOP and Tea Party hardliners apposed any raise in the debt-ceiling, Democrats and progress oriented Republicans … [Read more...] about Debt ceiling rises on Capitol Hill
