On Friday, Feb. 21, the Coyotes hosted the Seawolves in the Cossoullis Arena with a welcoming crowd on Military Appreciation night. Military Appreciation night is an event that CSUSB holds for all of the active and retired military veterans to show them that we appreciate their service to our country. Sophomore guard Alexcia Mack’s last second shot lifted the Coyotes to a 47-46 victory over the Otters of CSU Monterey Bay on Friday, Jan. 10. “At the moment I didn’t really see it as a game winning shot. It was a great win for us and a real turning point,” said Mack. In the first half, the Coyotes were in a battle starting off sluggish but quickly changed their gameplay throughout the first half. By Uriel Ortega |Staff Writer| Coach Renee Jimenez’s Coyotes rallied back for her 100th win against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers at the Coussoulis arena on Saturday. For women’s basketball it was looking like another defeat for the underdog in the first half, as they struggled to slow down the Pioneers. Pioneers guard, Stephanie Lopez, was the leading scorer as she picked apart the Coyotes and finished the first half with two three-pointers. Jimenez comes from a winning women’s basketball program at California State Monetary Bay. By Kris Sarikas | Assistant Sports Editor Renee Jimenez women's basketball coach for the Monterey Bay Otters has an impressive record with three NCAA tournament appearances. Furthermore, Jimenez has been hired to coach the women's Coyote basketball team. CSUSB athletics director Kevin Hatcher explains the hiring process for the new head coach. "We had about 40 actual resumes and about 100 inquires" said Hatcher," Coach Jimenez was chosen because of her commitment to academics, she has a 100% graduation rate in five years at Monterey Bay." By Erin Leach | Staff Writer | Women’s basketball closed the season with a 46-55 loss against number two seed UC San Diego Tritons on Tuesday March 5. The Yotes were dealt a tough hand as the Tritons have been one of the most notable teams this past season with an overall record of 20-10. With a 13-13 overall record (11-11 in the CCAA) going into the game, it was the first time since January 2011 that the Coyotes were able to pull of a .500 average for their season. “We played hard, but we just didn’t play a full 40 minutes of basketball,” said senior Kristen Huffman. CSUSB women’s basketball losses one, gains another
By Erin Leach |Staff Writer| The Coyote’s women’s basketball team came out even this weekend with one loss and one win. On Fri. Feb. 15, they faced CSU Chico and lost with a final score of 61-81. The following night, Feb. 16, the team came out weak but pulled through in the end against Cal State Stanislaus with a win of 61-52. The women now stand with a 10-12 record overall and an 8-10 record in the CCAA league. Prior to the loss this weekend the Coyotes had a two game winning streak and it looked like the team had been picking up steam. Women’s basketball looks to rebound from tough weekend
By Lindsey Allen |Staff Writer| Despite their best efforts, the CSUSB women’s basketball team suffered two losses on Nov. 23 and 25. The Coyotes played University of Tampa Nov. 23 at the UC San Diego Tritons Tournament. They managed to score an early lead in the game but the Tampa Spartans came back with a 17-2 run over a seven-minute span in the first half. Tampa maintained a lead throughout the majority of the second half, and in the final seven minutes of the game brought their lead up by 22 points.
