Uriel Ortega | Staff Writer| The Coyotes split their double-header series after facing off with the Call State Dominguez Hill Toros at Softball Park last Monday. The Coyotes had a one-two-punch from Nicole Nobbe and Tiffany McIntosh, who proved to be too much for the Toros in the second game with huge hitting in the double-header. Nobbe had a fabulous day, batting 3-for-4 in the series with three doubles, which proved to be a key factor for the Coyote’s scoring. McIntosh was clutch, crushing the ball twice for home runs,adding to her lead in HRs with nine. By Uriel Ortega |Staff Writer| Softball player Darian Manuz is the Coyotes' outfielder and currently the only senior on the team. She's looking to finish her season out strong. Last season, Manuz was very productive for the team. She started 44 games, had a batting average of .273 and the second most walks on the team. She played second base for the majority of the season and finished fourth in fielding percentage with a .951. Some highlights of last year included her seven multi-hit games. Manuz transferred from Palm Desert Community College where she played both seasons and was named school athlete of the year. By Uriel Ortega |Staff Writer| Coyotes softball swept No. 12 against St. Martin’s during last Sunday’s doubleheader in their season opener at the Coyote park field. The Coyotes made a statement by defeating one of the best teams of the north with precise pitching, great defense and timely hits. Coyotes Coach Tacy Duncan improved her team in the off-season by adding transfer players. The team’s new additions gave the team a bright future, with new talents. “We have worked very hard on pitching, very hard on hitting, and increased our strength and condition program,” said Duncan in preparation for the 2014 season. Being a member of a sports club means your are participating in a recreational sports program that holds practices, travels to other schools to compete, and represent the sports club department and CSUSB.
