Water polo club brings polo back to CSUSB
By Suriel Chavez |Staff Writer| Women's water polo was a part of the CSUSB campus for over a decade, but the program was disassembled. That has not stopped Coyotes from forming a co-ed water polo club. Women's water polo's first year at CSUSB was in 1999 and its last season ended in 2014. After not having a winning season since 2008, the program was cut. CSUSB has not seen the last of water polo. A women's water polo club was started with the conclusion of the team, but it was reformed due to the lack of participants. Students get cooled at Splash-a-Poolooza
By Melissa Gilbert |Staff Writer| The pool was taken over by about 80 students looking to escape the heat and enjoy the Splash-a-Pooloza. The event took place on May 15 at the campus pool and was a success. Many people are not even aware there is a pool on campus. This event was a way to make students aware. A large inflated iceberg replica was placed in the middle of the pool. Fearless students climbed and jumped off the iceberg. Limbo, relay races and a watermelon eating contest gave the event the feeling of a neighborhood pool party. Now picture yourself having the opportunity to swim the entire length of the lake, but conveniently located on campus at the CSUSB pool. Winter quarter challenges Coyotes’ endurance with the Student Recreation and Fitness Center's Swim the Bear challenge. The Swim The Bear challenge is 497 laps that many participants attempt to accomplish at the CSUSB pool. By Shane Burrell |Staff Writer| The woman’s water polo team had their last game at the La Jolla aquatic center against UC San Diego finishing with a score of 4-15. “We lost but we always leave feeling like winners as long as we know we gave it our best.” said player Heather Bertram. Iron Coyote Triathlon challenges students’ will and physical fitness
By Shane Burrell |Staff Writer| The Spring quarter fitness event, “The Iron Coyote” is giving students an opportunity to challenge themselves and each other’s fitness in physical activities. The Iron Coyote Triathlon consists of 26.2 miles of running, 112 miles of biking, and 2.4 miles of swimming, but don’t worry about finishing all of this in one day, competitors have the entire quarter to complete all of the activities. “Students have from April 15 to June 7 to finish the event” said Barry Greene Jr. Coyote fitness coordinator. Fitness does not end once bikini season begins

This summer, dipping in to the CSUSB pool will make the summer a lot cooler. “A lot of people go swimming during the summer, the pool can get a little crowded,” said Raulabel Gonzalez, the Sports and Facilities Coordinator. Along with being open to students, it is also open to the public. Pool hours are a little different in the summer. It’s open at noon every day and close at 7 p.m. on week days, and 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Closed on Sundays.
