Men’s basketball season underway

By Yera Nanan |Staff Writer| The men's basketball season is underway and it's looking to be a promising one. They are one the most decorated sports franchises at the university with three NCAA regional titles, nine CCAA titles and 13 NCAA appearances. Their most recent titles in both the NCAA regional and CCAA came in the 2014 season. "We're one of the most successful programs in the CCAA for the last 20 years," said Head Coach Jeff Oliver. "We've been to three Elite 8's, two Final Four's and have won nine conference championships," continued Oliver. Men’s basketball still ranking number 14

By Ryan Navaroli |Staff Writer Coyote men’s basketball team defeated the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles by a landslide. The Coyotes played their best game of this season, with a victory of 92-51 over the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles Friday night. The game marked their largest margin of victory in the last five seasons. The No. 14 team in the nation has now won 14 consecutive games. The landslide win proves the Coyotes are a force to be reckoned with in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Men’s basketball keeping up the heat

by Kirolles Guirguis |Staff Writer| The Coyote Men’s Baskellball team finished this past weekend undefeated against the San Francisco Gators and Sonoma State Seawolves. The Coyotes won 75-65 Friday night against the San Francisco State Gators and again Saturday night versus the Sonoma State Seawolves, 81-71. The Coyotes are now ranked 8th in the nation on the National Association of Basketball Coaches rankings. This marks the thirteenth consecutive win for the Coyotes this season, which is the longest winning streak the team has had since the 2003-2004 season. Men’s basketball makes it 14th in the nation

By Ryan Navaroli |Staff Writer   The Coyotes men’s basketball team is now 14th in the nation with 11 straight wins.The team was victorious with a 91-74 victory over the Cal State East Bay Pioneers Saturday night. The game began with the Coyotes leading 44-42 at the end of an evenly played first half. The Coyotes would gain control over the Pioneers with a huge run firing up the Coyote fans to start the second half. Senior forward, Jordan Burris, accounted for seven of those points. “Coming out of half time we had a sense of urgency. It is all about staying aggressive,” said Burris. CSUSB men’s basketball gets stopped by Chico and Stanislaus

By Brandon Landrum |Staff Writer| Despite giving it their all, the CSUSB men’s basketball team went down in both games on Feb. 15 and Feb. 16. The Coyotes played the Wildcats of CSU Chico and the Warriors of CSU Stanislaus. The team traveled to CSU Chico to play the Wildcats in the first of two road games. In the first half, the Coyotes started off strong, keeping the game close but toward the end of the half, the Wildcats began to pull away. The team shot 33 percent from the three-point line and had a 30 percent field goal percentage in the first. Men’s basketball powers through weekend

By Brandon Landrum |Staff Writer| The CSUSB men’s basketball team is still on fire and continues to play great basketball extending their winning streak to six. The Coyotes played their last two games on the road in Los Angeles against the Golden Eagles of CSU Los Angeles on Feb. 1, and then headed to Carson to take on the Toros of CSU Dominguez Hills on Feb. 2. The Coyotes were in for a battle against the Golden Eagels, escaping with a 67-66 win in dramatic fashion. Men’s basketball picks up needed wins

By Brandon Landrum |Staff Writer| Despite two losses in the past two games, the CSUSB men’s basketball team bounced back with two straight wins on Jan. 18 and 19. The Coyotes played the Pioneers of CSU East Bay on Jan. 18 and the Otters of CSU Monterey Bay on Jan. 19. The Coyotes got off to a great start in their first of six games on the road in Heyward as they cruised to a 71-59 victory over CSU East Bay. Men’s basketball falters after eight game winning streak

By Brandon Landrum |Staff Writer| The CSUSB men’s basketball team lost two straight games on Jan. 12 and Jan. 13 despite giving it their best efforts. The 15th ranked Coyotes played the Warriors of CSU Stanislaus on Jan. 12 and the Wildcats of CSU Chico Jan 13. The Coyotes started Friday’s game off sluggish while the Warriors jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they beat the Coyotes 76-60. CSUSB men’s basketball reaches No.15 in national ranking

By Kristopher Sarikas |staff writer| CSUSB's men's basketball team has been ranked 15th in the nation and has been consistently nationally ranked over the years. The Coyotes play in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Head coach Jeff Oliver stated the key to the Coyotes' success is their offensive balance in terms of various methods of offense. Coach Oliver stated that the Coyotes ability to score from the three point line is the teams strongest attribute and that at one point were ranked in the top ten for three pointers. Men’s basketball 3-pointers ensure win

By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| The Coyote’s caught fire from 3-point range propelling them to their first win of the season,with their backs against the wall and down 12 points late in the first half, beating UC San Diego 90-82. The game tested the Coyotes’ ability to remain calm and stick to their game plan Nov. 24 at Coussoulis Arena, leading them to their first CCAA victory.
