Tough losses but lasting thoughts at CSUSB Senior Night

On Saturday, five seniors played their last game in a Coyote uniform. Seniors Jasmine Sauser and Rachel Cain of the women's team, and Garrett Baggett, Justice Green, and Malik Rhodes were the seniors who were honored. The Coyotes, unfortunately, lost both games to Stanislaus State; the women’s team lost 65-52, and the men's team 97-88. Saturday’s games kicked off with the two women seniors being honored before the game. Basketball promos coming in February

By Lauren Jennings |Sports Editor| With just one month left of the men's and women's basketball regular season, the Athletics Department (AD) has revealed multiple giveaways and theme nights to fill Coussoulis Arena for the Coyotes final push for the playoffs. The AD worked with ASI to "Pack the House" against the San Francisco State Gators and it was a huge success. The stands were packed for both the women's and men's game on Jan. 18. Food, music and giveaways galore were offered to students to entice them to enjoy a ball game or two. CSUSB gives thanks to the military

By Megan Vina |Staff Writer| Current and former members of the military do so much for our country, so CSUSB Athletics and the Veterans Success Center (VSC) teamed up to show our appreciation. U.S. military service members, including active-duty service, reserves, National Guard members, veterans, ROTC and their families filled the Coussoulis Arena on Jan. 21. Admission was free for military personnel. The festivities began with a tailgate that included food, entertainment, giveaways and raffles. It continued inside the arena with more entertainment and different appreciation ceremonies. He plays, eats and sleeps basketball

By Brandon Landrum |Staff Writer| Senior guard Lacy Haddock had a phenomenal year playing for Coyote men’s basketball. Haddock was a standout player this year for the Coyotes averaging 12.8 points, 6.3 assist and 2.9 rebounds per game in 26 games. Haddock came from Las Vegas, Nev and graduated from Sierra Vista High School in 2007. He averaged 18.7 points per game during his senior year. Haddock has played for College of Southern Idaho, Yavapai College, and Central Washington University before playing here at CSUSB in 2012. By Brandon Landrum |Staff Writer| The Coyotes suffered a defeat to the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos 68-88 on Saturday, Feb. 1. The newly seventh ranked Coyote’s men’s basketball team hosted the 23rd ranked Broncos.The game was played in front of a record-setting crowd of about 4,500 people in the Coussoulis Arena as part of the Pack the House night. The Pack the House night is an event that takes place every year to fill the arena to capacity. This year, the crowd brought a lot of energy and excitement to the game. Men’s basketball makes it 14th in the nation

By Ryan Navaroli |Staff Writer   The Coyotes men’s basketball team is now 14th in the nation with 11 straight wins.The team was victorious with a 91-74 victory over the Cal State East Bay Pioneers Saturday night. The game began with the Coyotes leading 44-42 at the end of an evenly played first half. The Coyotes would gain control over the Pioneers with a huge run firing up the Coyote fans to start the second half. Senior forward, Jordan Burris, accounted for seven of those points. “Coming out of half time we had a sense of urgency. It is all about staying aggressive,” said Burris. Huffman: Not ready to give up basketball

By Erin Leach |Staff Writer| CSUSB student athlete Kristen Huffman is leaving the Cal State Community this year after two seasons of playing with the women’s basketball team. Huffman and the other seniors are finding it difficult to part from such a driven, dedicated team. So far this season the senior forward has played 182 intense minutes of basketball and says she doesn’t regret any of it. Huffman has put 34 total points on the board for the Coyote women.
