By Lauren Jennings |Sports Editor| The time of year for teammates to say goodbye to their graduating seniors has once again returned, and the baseball team is getting ready to say farewell to 11 players. Dillon Fahr Fahr (No. 3) joined the Coyotes in 2015 after playing two years at Mesa Community College. His first year at CSUSB, he played in 36 games, starting 28 of them and batting .235. In his second year, he played just 10 games before suffering a season-ending injury. Fahr still made good use of what little playing time he had, hitting .241 and recording two doubles and a home run. Fahr hit .316 in his final year with the Coyotes, scoring a team-leading 38 runs. By Lauren Jennings |Sports Editor| The Coyote baseball team, which got its start in 1987, is about to start its 31st season. The team has had its ups and downs throughout the years, as all teams do, but this year's team is ready to pick up from where they left off last year. They ended last season by losing two games in the CCAA championships, so the team is looking for redemption and a shot at the CCAA title. "I truly believe this team can make another appearance in the CCAA conference tournament," said current head coach David Martinez. Wells earns multiple honors in 2016
By Kaila Morales |Staff Writer| Coyote right-handed pitcher Tyler Wells was selected for the All-CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) first team, which took place during the CCAA tournament banquet. Wells joined a team of 16 others to make up the All-CCAA first team and 16 members of the All-CCAA second team for a total of 33 and was the only Coyote representing CSUSB. Wells finished the season, tied for first for most strikeouts in the CCAA with a total of 89 and he was able to led CSUSB to the CCAA Tournament for the first time in four seasons. William Ouellette, Grant Buchanan, Dylan Lohman, Brian Lockey, Jon-Paolo D’Este, Andrew Lopez, Kamden Haglund, Ryan Rich and Ryan Cooper hung up their cleats after they were defeated by the first place Cal Poly Broncos in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament. Ouellette, who will graduate in the fall, is a kinesiology major. He hopes to become a kinesiology teacher or even a baseball coach. Baseball falls to top two CCAA teams
By Kaila Morales |Staff Writer| CSUSB baseball took their efforts to Stockton for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament, but were shut down by both Cal State East Bay and Cal Poly Pomona. The team traveled to Stockton for the CCAA tournament, which was held at Banner Island Ballpark. Banner Island Ballpark is the home of the Stockton Ports, a minor league baseball team who are affiliated with the Oakland Athletics. The last time the Coyotes won the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title was in 2002. Although they did not finish in first place this year, they made it to the playoffs and went in ready to fight for the crown. The CCAA changed the playoff format this season, which allowed the Coyotes to be a part of the postseason. Previously, the CCAA tournament took only the top four teams into the playoffs, but two more spots were added this year. This weekend's performance, which was up against California Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) first place team in the South Division, was a tough matchup that did not displayed the Coyote's abilities. The CCAA series opener took place on April 29 at Fiscalini Field, where left-handed pitcher Don Sullivan got the start. CSUSB baseball has joined up with the Dave Stockton event to contribute to current and future Coyote student-athletes on our baseball team. Stockton, who is the club's professional golfer on staff will be there with the help of his sons Ron and Dave Jr. They will be in attendance to help coach the attendees who are paying for the event. The Kansas City Royals selected him in the 30th round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) June Amateur Draft and assigned him to their minor league system to start out in. He played center field and batted a .330 average in his final season played with the Coyote baseball team. He gained several career accolades and records that would solidify him among one of the best to ever lace up on the diamond for the Coyotes. Baseball wins series against CS San Marcos
By Lauren Jennings |Sports Editor| The Coyote baseball team took on the Cal State San Marcos Cougars March 4 and 5, winning three games in the four game series. The first game of the series took place on March 4 in the late morning and was the Coyotes only loss. Tyler Wells, the game one starting pitcher, threw six strong innings; only allowing one run on five hits.
