The shocking announcement to cut the sport was made March 21 by Director of athletics, Dr. Kevin Hatcher and Mark Reinhiller, Associate of Media relations. Hatcher states the decision was made in the best interest of the communities and high schools of incoming students. “Track and field is the single largest high school sport for young women in our immediate recruiting area of the Inland Empire,” stated Hatcher. Coyote softball having a sweet weekend
By Uriel Ortega |Staff Writer| The Coyotes get a split on Valentine’s Day, but No. 4 ranked Humboldt State shows no mercy, sweeping the Coyotes in seconded double-header last Friday and Saturday. In a fourth game against top ranked conference opponents Humboldt State, the Coyotes fell short on upsetting the Jacks on missed opportunities, as the Coyotes fell 4-1. The first game of Valentine’s Day, the Jacks came out swinging as they slugged four home runs out of Softball Park. The Jacks took a commanding 5-0 lead with two home runs and three RBIs. Water Polo working hard to get back in the game
By Uriel Ortega |Staff Writer| The Coyotes women’s water polo team suffered two defeats last weekend at the Redlands Mini-Tournament, losing to the Chapman Panthers and the Redlands Bulldogs. The Coyotes had their hands full, facing off against two of the top ranked division III teams to start the season. Coach Sarah Reneker and her Coyotes had been preparing for the mini-tournament for three weeks to confront two very worthy opponents. “We have been doing a lot of conditioning and have a small squad this year, but it’s beneficial for a lot of four-on-four scrimmaging, and we are looking to come out and put everything we have been working on into play,” said Reneker. Coyotes defeat the Pioneers
By Uriel Ortega |Staff Writer| Coach Renee Jimenez’s Coyotes rallied back for her 100th win against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers at the Coussoulis arena on Saturday. For women’s basketball it was looking like another defeat for the underdog in the first half, as they struggled to slow down the Pioneers. Pioneers guard, Stephanie Lopez, was the leading scorer as she picked apart the Coyotes and finished the first half with two three-pointers. However, the Coyotes kept fighting back as guard, Briana Baker, stole the ball for a fast break layup and narrowed the score to a 32-23 deficit lead by the Pioneers. CSUSB hires new women’s basketball coach
By Kris Sarikas | Assistant Sports Editor Renee Jimenez women's basketball coach for the Monterey Bay Otters has an impressive record with three NCAA tournament appearances. Furthermore, Jimenez has been hired to coach the women's Coyote basketball team. CSUSB athletics director Kevin Hatcher explains the hiring process for the new head coach. "We had about 40 actual resumes and about 100 inquires" said Hatcher," Coach Jimenez was chosen because of her commitment to academics, she has a 100% graduation rate in five years at Monterey Bay."
