Polcyn, Department Chair of the Biology Department at CSUSB sent out an email announcing the department will not open up another section for Biology 300 course, despite students signing a petition. Bio 300, Cell Physiology, is a requirement needed in order to graduate as a Biology major and is used in other majors as well. Students eager to graduate found themselves signing a petition in an attempt to open another section for Bio 300, however according to Polcyn, signing the petition will not help us in the long run. By Mariela Limon |Staff Writer| Governor Jerry Brown’s newly released 2013-2014 state budget proposal gives back to higher education, including an extra $125.1 million for the California State University system. If passed, the budget guarantees that the CSU system will receive a total of $2.2 billion in state funding. Governor Brown Pushes For Prop. 30
By Brenda Acuna |Staff Writer| Nov. 6 marks a historic election for college students across California as they hit voting booths and determine the fate of public universities’ economic situation. In a recent conference call with CSU newspapers, Gov. Brown urged all college students to vote “yes” on Proposition 30 if they did not want their tuition to increase again. During the 25-minute call, the Governor told the CSU newspapers that his tax measure comes down to a simple choice for voters: either provide funding for schools or allow additional education cuts that will hike up college tuition. By Kimberly Treloar |Staff Writer| The stress is building in the CSU system. Tuition and fees continue to rise every year and the number of class offerings and the budget are slashed even further. It appears as if this volcano may be near the point of erupting. I think increasing tuition and other fees are probably the worst thing that the CSU system can do to students right now. We are already broke and the constant increases will only force many of us to either have to drop out, or work two to three jobs. How will we be able to obtain an education? Budget cuts and rise in tuition were amongst the numerous topics the President of CSUSB announced at the Convocation Ceremony. “I’ve never been more proud of what the CSUSB faculty and staff has contributed to the lives of our students and for the wholesome way you interact with one another,” said Karnig before he started the ceremony.
