March 7, 2014 by Archived posts 1 Comment

By Ryan Navaroli |Staff Writer The Coyotes men’s baseball team split the final two games in their double-header against the San Francisco State Gators on Sunday. The Coyotes could not hold on losing 4-3 to the Gators in their first game of their double-header. Freshman pitcher Jake Meloche went the distance in his longest outing as a Coyote. Meloche pitched the entire game, yielding 7 hits, 2 walks, and 4 earned runs in his eight innings of work. “SFSU was a very aggressive hitting team; they swung at the first pitch a lot which kept my pitch count down,”said Meloche. Meloche thought pitching in San Francisco’s larger ballpark was an advantage. “Throwing in a large ballpark is a … [Read more...] about Baseball wins the weekend

By Ryan Navaroli |Staff Writer| Kerrey Kelley enters his final season as the Coyotes ace pitcher. After graduating from Palmdale High School in 2010, Kelley knew CSUSB was the right choice. “I chose CSUSB because it was close to home and I liked how the pitchers have always succeeded here. I believe it has worked out well for me,” said Kelley. Kelley has always had supporters fill the stands at his games. “My family and my girlfriend come to every single game. My grandparents have also never missed a game. They have had my back since day one. The support I get from all of them means so much to me,” said Kelley. Kelley reflects on the biggest thrill that college baseball has … [Read more...] about Kickin it with Kelley

Meloche yielded seven hits, two walks, and two earned runs in his four innings of play. “Getting the home opener was a great honor to get, especially as a freshman. My mind set was just to get off to a good start, make good pitches, and to get some momentum on our side,” said Meloche. “CBU is a well coached team that does not make a lot of … [Read more...] about Baseball firing up their game

Coyote baseball hunting for deep playoff run this season

January 28, 2012 by Archived posts 2 Comments

By Spencer Hirsch |Staff Writer| Coyote baseball is looking to put last year’s disappointments behind them as they embark on a new season. Their 20-18 record was not quite good enough, as they missed out on the conference playoff tournament by just a few winning percentage points. "It's always very disappointing when you do not make the playoffs, because once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen," said head coach Don Parnell. Junior center fielder Ethan Chapman feels they should have had a much stronger finish to the season. "We didn't live up to our expectations. We had a lot of talent, just didn't put it together," said Chapman. Parnell has high goals and one big … [Read more...] about Coyote baseball hunting for deep playoff run this season
