The Coyotes won three out of four games played against the Gators. In game one on Feb. 20, pitcher Cassandra Williams was throwing heat up on the mound; she pitched all seven innings like it was just another day at the office. The Gators thought they had the Coyotes by their tail when they scored in the first inning, but little did they know, that would be the only run they would get past Williams. Men’s soccer keeps that winning streak
By Loydie Burmah |Opinions Editor| Coyote men's soccer won in an arduous match against the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors 1-0 at Premier Field on Oct 17. The Coyotes scored in the second half in the 65th minute, when freshman Midfielder Tony Lo scored left past Warriors goalie Clint Long, assisted by Midfielder Diego Mendoza and Defender Daniel Looker. A mess of shouted phrases from coaches along the outer edge of the field urged the players to maintain peak performance. Outside midfielder Daniel Lopez believes that the Coyotes' possession-oriented style of playing is what allows the team to create advancing opportunities to score. Redskins fight for new name
By Gina Miranda |Staff Writer| Bruce Allen, the newly appointed President of The Washington Redskins, responded in a letter to senate Majority leader Harry Reid stating that the team logo is not racist and instead shows “reverence” toward Native Americans. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has opted for tradition and refuses to change the team logo. On behalf of the Washington fran- chise, Allen commented on the racial al- legations. “Our use of ‘Redskins’ as the name of our football team for more than 80 years has always been respectful of and shown reverence toward the proud legacy and tra- ditions of Native Americans,” wrote Allen. U.S. team nabs first gold as both men and women sweep the gold for slope style snowboarding at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The United States claimed the first gold in the slope style with a big board and big tricks by Sage Kotsenburg, who won the game’s first gold medal. The Coyotes made a statement by defeating one of the best teams of the north with precise pitching, great defense and timely hits. Coyotes Coach Tacy Duncan improved her team in the off-season by adding transfer players. The team’s new additions gave the team a bright future, with new talents. “We have worked very hard on pitching, very hard on hitting, and increased our strength and condition program,” said Duncan in preparation for the 2014 season. By Uriel Ortega |Staff Writer| Coach Renee Jimenez’s Coyotes rallied back for her 100th win against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers at the Coussoulis arena on Saturday. For women’s basketball it was looking like another defeat for the underdog in the first half, as they struggled to slow down the Pioneers. Pioneers guard, Stephanie Lopez, was the leading scorer as she picked apart the Coyotes and finished the first half with two three-pointers. However, the Coyotes kept fighting back as guard, Briana Baker, stole the ball for a fast break layup and narrowed the score to a 32-23 deficit lead by the Pioneers. Coyotes find strength in defeat

The Coyotes suffered another closing game on Nov. 17 against the UC San Diego Tritons, losing to 70-65. On the first half, senior Tayllor Gipson and sophomore Alexcia Mack both played guard and were unstoppable on the first half, catching as many rebounds and trying not to lose the ball. Volleyball looks for continued success during playoff run
By Devan Lee |Staff Writer| CSUSB Women’s Volleyball won the opening match against Central Washington in the 2012 NCAA Western Regional. Their recent victory has pleased head coach Kim Cherniss, who expects a great deal from her girls. “I’m very happy to have this winning traditon continue,” said Cherniss. The Lady Yotes traveled all the way to Laie, Hawaii on Nov. 29th. They faced a Central Washington Wildcat team that went into the game with an overall record of 28 wins and 7 losses. New logo unites teams

From the University of Oregon which uses its football team as a guinea pig for Nike’s futuristic uniform ideas to professional teams constantly trying to brand itself to appeal to the younger generation, uniforms are money. CSUSB seemed to get the idea as they unveiled a brand new logo for the athletic team’s here on campus. “We were tired of seeing our students walk around in UCLA and USC gear,” said Athletic Director Kevin Hatcher, in the press conference unveiling the logo.
