Birth control affects users mood

By Marlyn Rodriguez |Staff Writer| Contraceptive methods can cause mood irregularities for women. The list of side effects is a fairly short and self-explanatory one. They include headaches, dizziness, breast tenderness, nausea, decreased libido and spotting. The one side effect doctors sometimes fail to emphasize and is prevailing among all the others is depression and mood disturbances. Although contraceptives have been of great benefit to most women by allowing them to control their reproductive life and reducing premenstrual syndrome, I want to urge students to ask questions and fully understand the outcome of starting a contraceptive program. Obama’s birth control mandate is fair

By Sara Nydam|Staff Writer| Catholic Institutions around the country filed a lawsuit on May 20 against President Obama’s controversial birth control mandate that will require all employers to provide birth control coverage through their health insurance benefits. The federal lawsuit argues that Obama’s mandate violates religious freedom by requiring religiously affiliated institutions to provide birth control to their employees. Religious controversy sparks over birth control mandate

By Melissa Benton |Staff Writer| The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced Jan. 20 that all employers, including religious affiliated institutions, must provide contraception coverage in their health plans for all employees. Roman Catholic bishops and other religious leaders severely opposed this mandate claiming it as a violation of religious liberty. Pres. Obama amended the plan on Feb. 10 requiring all health insurance companies offer employees free contraceptives for all religious affiliated institutions, including churches, hospitals and universities.
