By Crystal Harrell |Staff Writer from Palm Desert Campus| The CSUSB satellite campus in Palm Desert will be giving puzzle-lovers the chance to compete in its second interactive Escape Room competition May 15 and 18. Teams consisting of up to five players will have a maximum of 45 minutes to unlock a cryptex, a portable vault device reminiscent to the one featured in The Da Vinci Code. The numbers needed to unlock the cryptex will be revealed once players solve various riddles and clues and find secret boxes and compartments within a room. Local Super Smash Bros. Tournament

Melee tournament at a local brewery, where they spent their time competing and enjoying a cold refreshing beer. The event was held on May 12 and put together with the help of San Bernardino's Generation Now—a social club that devotes its time to help the city prosper with small activities that impact the arts, recreational and economic projects by shaping the culture around us. A total of 22 players took part in this double elimination tournament, which uses a bracket system to give a second opportunity for players to make a comeback. Street legal racing in Fontana
By Jason Samp |Staff Writer| Race enthusiasts came together at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana in an effort to reduce illegal street racing in the local community. The event is focused on providing a safe experience for those who want to race their car without risking an accident or breaking the law. Racers are provided with a fully staffed crew, technical inspection team, a well-maintained drag strip and a paramedic team for $20 a day. Spectators are charged a $10 entry for the day. Smashing the competition
By Robert Klimper |Staff Writer| CSUSB gamers competed in a bi-weekly test of skills through a Super Smash Bros. tournament hosted by the Santos Manuel Student Union (SMSU) on Jan. 25. The tournament is set up into a two bracket system. As matches are played the winner of each match are kept in the winners bracket and those who have lost get moved to the loser bracket. “It's kind of surreal for me [winning], I’m pretty happy,” said Ian Hicks, winner of the tournament. Floasis at Back to the Grind

Upon arriving at about 7 p.m., the coffee shop's first floor was full of people who appeared to be studying or on the couch socializing with their friends. I ordered a caramel Frappuccino, although it was not on the menu, the barista happily created the drink I asked for . As the barista prepared drinks for the customers, the room was filled with the coffee aroma. The cover charge was $7 dollars and included a raffle ticket to be entered in a drawing to win prizes. They were awarded “First Place Outstanding Performance” in the competition, which lasted a period of over 12 weeks. CSUSB Dining Services hosted its first Copper Chef Tournament at the Upper Commons on Feb. 17, where competitors were given one hour to prepare a dish that must be accompanied with a salad. The real challenge, however, comes from the mystery ingredient that is announced only a minute before the event starts and must be used in the main dish. Coyotes vs. Food competition
By Kim Dailey |Staff Writer| ASI hosted their third annual Coyote vs. Food competition May 10 in the Santos Manuel Student Union lobby. Students gathered around the table, some waiting to participate and others just waiting to watch. After signing a liability waiver, participants partook in three different rounds of competitive eating. In round one, students had to eat a foot-long “garbage” burrito weighing up to 5 pounds, in 30 minutes or less. There were eleven competitors, 10 men and one woman. Students tried all different ways to defeat the burrito, but the winner, student Alex Weis, had eaten the whole burrito in only 6 minutes.
