Annual Communication Symposium Focused on Networking, Success & Gratitude
Growing from half a day last year to a full day event this year, the "COMM Symposium: Transcending Boundaries" brought together students, alumni, faculty and staff on May 7 at the San Manuel Student Union. "This was the first year where a team of 8 student interns put on the event as part of their coursework," commented Professor Jess Block Nerren, who lead the team of interns and organized the event. Public Relations Student Society of America Relaunches at CSUSB
After a year and a half hiatus, CSUSB's Public Relations Student Society of America has officially relaunched on Jan. 29. The relaunch of the chapter was joined by Mary Ann Pearson, Chair of Public Relations, for California Baptist University; and the 2015 chapter president of PRSSA Inland Empire, and C.L. Lopez, a faculty member at Cal Baptist. Together, they discussed strategic communication, branding, and career search preparation. Behind the screen: Communication studies video production lab
A valuable resource that some communication majors at the CSUSB campus may not be aware of is the video lab located in the basement of University Hall. The video production lab gives students the resources needed to produce multimedia projects using a variety of equipment and software. Some of the features of the lab are a multi-camera studio and control room, five self-contained editing bays and an assortment of field production equipment, such as DSLR cameras, lights, microphones and tripods. Women and Division
As division is a prominent issue in our society particularly among women, gender division is often overlooked and not taken seriously. A workshop titled “You Go Girl: Building Communities Rather Than Division” was held in the Lower Commons on April 11 to inform the CSUSB community about struggles that women face. Therapist Gwendolyn Brower-Romero presented the workshop as part of the Counseling and Psychological Services Spring 2018 Wellness Workshops. On Oct. 31, Kyle Finck of The Los Angeles Times spoke with Coyote Chronicle student journalists about multimedia storytelling and ways in which independent student media can acquire an edge. Finck met with the editorial staff first at 3 p.m. in the Coyote Chronicle newsroom. The topics he discussed were getting to know the staff and offering any helpful advice regarding the process of putting together a weekly publication that he learned while being Editor-in-Chief of the Middlebury College newspaper when he was a university student. Palm Desert Campus Expands with New Radio Class
The CSUSB Palm Desert campus began offering its first radio production class this fall quarter as part of the ongoing goal to expand and diversify the programs offered to students. Maintaining their permanent satellite location since 2002, the campus serves as the only four-year institution in the Coachella Valley and the only university named in the state budget. This June, Gov. Jerry Brown signed a state budget granting the Palm Desert campus three million in one-time funds, making a total of 20 million for the institution to use for future development and to increase enrollment.
