Rolling Along: The art and evolution of sushi

February 2, 2016 by Archived posts 644 Comments

By Haecheol Jang |Staff Writer| Sushi is one of the most famous Japanese foods and it is very popular in the world. There are lots of famous Japanese foods: udon, yakisoba, tacoyaki, soba and sushi. Sushi is a food from rice with sliced fish. Sliced fish or other sliced seafood and covered rice with added vinegar, is called nigiri. Some sushi has added wasabi between the rice and fish. Originally people made sushi to preserve fish for long period of time, according to Sushi Notebook. People salted the fish and buried them into the rice. The fish would ferment anywhere from a few days to a few months. Traditionally, fish was eaten without the rice but nowadays, we eat … [Read more...] about Rolling Along: The art and evolution of sushi

Celebrating 50 years of CSUSB

October 8, 2015 by Nicholas Witt 7 Comments

By Nicholas Whitt |Staff Writer| Coyotes, the 50th anniversary is here and the school is definitely giving us a lot of love, celebrating our past, transforming our future. The Commons got an overhaul, making it look like part of an actual restaurant. New items were also added to the menu: freshly cut sushi that’s prepared right in front of you, deli sandwiches that can come in many assorted breads or tortilla, the new double cheese burger, and let’s not forget the new Coca-Cola freestyle machine that gives you the ability to finish off your meal with a beverage of your own creation. The student union is open and a lot friendlier on the eyes since the remodeling. It’s been … [Read more...] about Celebrating 50 years of CSUSB

Sodexo’s food assaults tastebuds

June 7, 2015 by Archived posts 3 Comments

By Woojung Choi |Staff Writer| Many Coyotes do not like the price, quality, or variety of foods offered on campus. “We are proud to offer a dining program complete with signature brands and menu selections that entail just about every item you can imagine,” according to the CSUSB Dining Services’ homepage. On the Sodexo CSUSB Facebook page, 13 students have rated the campus’ food and service, averaging a 3.3 out of 5 stars. All of the five, four, three, and two star reviews are not accompanied with comments, however a few one star reviews are elaborated. “Extremely slow service and some workers need to retake their food safety class to learn about cleanliness,” stated Yousef Ar … [Read more...] about Sodexo’s food assaults tastebuds

Snow day provides cool down after midterms

February 13, 2014 by Archived posts 4 Comments

By Greg Avetisyan |Assistant Sports Editor| Ice skating, sledding, snowboarding, music, drinks, food and tons of snow helped students relax during a hot day on campus. Snow Day 2014 allowed students to take a break from classes and midterms this past Thursday. The event was held by Recreational Sports and ASI from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the Commons on the grass. Snow Day takes place every year and gives students an opportunity to relieve some stress and relax. “It is fun because it cultivates some school spirit within the community and brings some imagination to San Bernardino by bringing snow to the campus,” said Owen Odigie, Vice President of Finance of Associated … [Read more...] about Snow day provides cool down after midterms

Food quantity shrinks while prices go up

November 16, 2013 by Archived posts 70 Comments

By Daniel DeMarco | Staff Writer| Food quantities, prices, and selection have stirred controversy across the CSUSB campus. Allegations center around decreasing portion sizes with prices remaining the same or rising. Some believe the increase in minimum wage may be the cause of these perceived changes. According to Dave Janosky, general manager of Sodexo at CSUSB, minimum wage has nothing to do with portion or price changes. Sodexo is the company that manages most of the food on campus such as the Commons cafeteria, the Student Union food court, and the various food concession stands. Sodexo does not manage the vending machines or the bookstore. “All food has increased to … [Read more...] about Food quantity shrinks while prices go up

Commons gets it right, but should be open late night

January 28, 2012 by Archived posts 3 Comments

By Dominique Sterling |Staff Writer| CSUSB will never become a school known for great school spirit unless it becomes a place where students who live on and off campus have a place to meet and socialize late at night. The main and easiest way people can socialize is around food, and there is no better place on campus to do that than the Commons with their main dining room. I have been attending the CSUSB campus for three years and had never eaten at the Commons until last Thursday. Since then it has become my first choice for a meal. I was very surprised at the amount of healthy yet wholesome choices that the menu offered. Entering the Commons I found it very pleasurable to … [Read more...] about Commons gets it right, but should be open late night
