Through thick and thin

November 7, 2016 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Kyle Richardson |News Editor| In a sex driven generation, casual sex seems to be the norm for many. However, when it comes to your significant other, I believe that your past should not impact your future. “It depends on if he has been with someone I know, then it kind of bothers me, but if not, I do not care, that’s the past,” said student, Jessye Gentry. “Hookup culture dominates the American college social scene. Up to 81 percent of all college students have had at least one casual sexual encounter,” stated Sascha L. Goluboff in an article titled, "Text to sex: The impact of cell phones on hooking up and sexuality on campus." That means only two out of every 10 college … [Read more...] about Through thick and thin

Relationships are official regardless of titles

November 2, 2015 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Erendy Torres |Staff Writer| My dad never asked my mom to be his girlfriend when they started dating 23 years ago. So, does that mean my parents are still "hooking up" to this day? Of course not. They have three children together and are fully committed to each other. Titles don't mean anything. Relationships don't need a title to be considered official. Lacking an official title does not make a relationship faulty or weak. Two people can be completely comfortable and happy with one another maintaining an Unofficial Exclusive Relationship: "When two people are dating, but not in a relationship. Even though they are not officially together, both individuals are not looking to get … [Read more...] about Relationships are official regardless of titles

Coyote dating Expectations

October 25, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Danielle Brooks |Staff Writer| Dating in college can come easy for some and may not be a priority for others. Some go to college looking to find their future spouse while the rest are enjoying the single life looking to have a good time. “College students prefer short-term, casual relationships over long-term relationships because it allows them to focus on their academic and career goals,” according to an article by Heather Fishel from campusexplorer.com. “I’m perfectly okay with being single right now. I’m young and I just want to make the best of my college experience and not let anyone get in the way of it,” said student Cheyenne Crawford. Since many students would … [Read more...] about Coyote dating Expectations

Marriage is bad tradition

July 19, 2014 by Archived posts Leave a Comment

By Daniel DeMarco |Features Editor| Marriage is almost a completely meaningless and useless institution that does little but fatten up jewelers and lawyers, only to have some legitimacy in the financial and legal benefits it provides. The problem is that most people do not get married for these benefits. A recent Pew Research survey found that 88 percent of people felt that "love" was a "very important" reason to get married and 81 percent felt that "making a lifelong commitment" was "very important," while only 23 percent felt that "legal rights and benefits" were "very important." These are not surprising results in modern society where love and marriage are presented to … [Read more...] about Marriage is bad tradition
