NBA playoffs shoot towards championship

April 26, 2014 by Archived posts 919 Comments

By Donte Medder |Staff Writer| While the NCAA tournament wraps up, attention has turned to the NBA Playoffs. All year long teams have been jockeying for a playoff position and now the final 16 are set. All the questions asked at the beginning of the season will be answered. Can Lebron James win a third straight championship or are the Indiana Pacers ready to take a shot at the title? Can Kevin Durant put a feather on the cap on what seems to be a lock for his first Most Valuable Player award with a championship? Or do the Los Angeles Clippers legitimately have a chance to hang a banner in the Lakers home arena. From seasoned veteran teams such as the San Antonio Spurs … [Read more...] about NBA playoffs shoot towards championship

L.A. pros taking sports world by storm

May 20, 2012 by Archived posts

By Jessica Bracamontes |Staff Writer| Lately, the city of Los Angeles has been on top of the sports world, with the Dodgers, Lakers, Clippers, and Kings making noise in their respective sports. The hype from these Los Angeles teams has made its way to CSUSB, as the Coyotes cheer on and support their favorite local sport teams year round. Student Valeria Barragan is an avid Dodgers fan who attends multiple games each season and is convinced that this season will be quite successful for the boys in blue. “Los Angeles Dodgers are doing extremely good this season with a 24-13 record so far. With their new ownership, it gives the team the motivation to focus more on the game,” said … [Read more...] about L.A. pros taking sports world by storm

Coyote Jock Talk: Young Clippers struggle in Game 1 of semifinals

May 16, 2012 by Archived posts

Game one of the Western Conference semifinals was a tough game for the underdog Clippers who struggled to stop the Spurs in the paint and at the three-point line. Through out the game, the Clippers could not match up with the speed of the Spurs in transition on the court or control the pace of the game with 15 turnovers. "We weren't able to slow them down," said Clippers Head Coach Vinny Del Negro. "I thought the tempo was in their favor a lot." Down low in the post, Griffin and Jordan could not eliminate the efforts of Spurs Tim Duncan from taking it to the paint and scoring. Majority of the Spurs points came from scoring in the paint and he made it look easy. Despite the … [Read more...] about Coyote Jock Talk: Young Clippers struggle in Game 1 of semifinals

Coyote Jock Talk: Move over Lakeshow, welcome to Lob City

March 8, 2012 by Archived posts 131 Comments

By Katherine Valadez |Staff Writer| Until now, L.A. has really had only one basketball team. The Lakers have always run the show, attracted the celebrities and made L.A. traffic even worse with their championship parades. It’s always been about that purple and gold, not whatever colors that other team in L.A. has on their jerseys. The Clippers really were more like a “half” team. They were just the cheaper option for L.A.’s basketball fans to see a live basketball game without having to pay over 100 bucks just to sit in the nosebleeds. But this season, Los Angeles has started to notice that not one, but two NBA teams play at the Staples Center. That fact alone shouldn’t be … [Read more...] about Coyote Jock Talk: Move over Lakeshow, welcome to Lob City

Coyote Jock Talk: Lakers and Clippers battle for Los Angeles

February 27, 2012 by Archived posts 5 Comments

By Jovani Gama |Sports Editor| The Lakers and Clippers have been fighting a lop-sided battle, with the Lakers dominating the Battle of Los Angeles for as long as anyone can remember. Last season, Blake Griffin made a splash on the league with his highlight dunks, causing many people to question, not whether or not the Clippers were the better team in L.A., but whether or not they were the most exciting team. Many undoubtedly believed they were. This season, things shifted heavily in the Clippers favor. After NBA Commissioner David Stern shocked the league by vetoing a trade in which star point guard Chris Paul would be sent to the Lakers, resulting in the Clippers making a trade of … [Read more...] about Coyote Jock Talk: Lakers and Clippers battle for Los Angeles

Coyote Jock Talk: Kyrie Irving suffers concussion

February 12, 2012 by Archived posts 1,208 Comments

By Jazmin Jett |Staff Writer| It is extremely unfortunate for this year’s number one pick in the NBA draft, Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who was diagnosed with a concussion before Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. The affliction which caused Irving’s condition occurred during Cleveland’s game against Miami on Tuesday. Irving clashed with Heat forward Chris Bosh, during an attempted shot. It was then that he fell back and hit his head on the knee of Dwyane Wade. Kyrie, who has no history of past concussions, continued playing; he didn’t display any signs of a health issue. Irving arrived at the Quicken Loans Arena the afternoon of Wednesday’s game … [Read more...] about Coyote Jock Talk: Kyrie Irving suffers concussion
