The Humane Society of San Bernardino Valley (HSSBV) continues to provide services for animals and animal lovers alike as it celebrates 50 years as a local non-profit organization. Joyce Martin founded HSSBV on March 16, 1970. According to Jill A. Henderson, Director of Development & Outreach of HSSBV, it started with a group of friends in Martin's garage, which later expanded to its own building. Community Counselor Center now taking appointments
By Aimee Villalpando |Staff Writer| The Community Counseling Center currently has openings for children, adolescents, and adult clients from campus and the Inland Empire community who are struggling with depression, anxiety, life changes, and other issues. For more than 30 years the CSUSB Community Counseling Center has counseled or referred more than 10,000 people. Since its opening, in 1973, the Counseling Center has run on the Academic calendar. The Center is staffed by qualified CSUSB graduate students and is supervised by faculty, who are licensed psychologists. Sometimes they are too busy to schedule an appointment with their primary care physician. “It’s convenient to visit the Health Center,” said Leticia Valdez. “I didn’t want to go all the way to my doctor’s office, and the medication is cheap.” The Health Center offers an array of services including free routine office visits, low cost physicals, and lab and x-ray services. Doctors discover medical breakthrough that may cure HIV
Tiffiny Gaston |Staff Writer| At a medical conference in Atlanta on Sunday March 3, a group of scientists mentioned that they believe they have cured a child of HIV. According to the LA Times, for the first time, doctors are reporting that a child born with HIV and put on an unusually aggressive treatment regimen has been functionally cured of the infection. The child in question is a two-year-old girl from Mississippi, whose identity has not been revealed to the public.
