By Lost Girl Planned Parenthood defunding threats from the Republican Party are growing and people are not happy. Threats to defund Planned Parenthood (PP) have grown more serious, now that the party controls both the Senate and House. During a CNN Town Hall meeting in January, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan made comments regarding his stance on PP. “We don’t want to commit taxpayer funding for abortion, and Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider,” said Ryan. Now let’s get factual. PP does receive federal funding. The $500 million collected a year, comes mostly from Medicaid and Title X, but by law, federal funding cannot contribute to abortions. “The … [Read more...] about OPINION: Defunding Planned Parenthood does not defund abortion

Mindfulness is a powerful tool
By Michael Isberto |Staff Writer| A course on mindfulness is one of the newest additions to CSUSB’s curriculum. The Communication Studies department dedicates an entire class on helping students strengthen their focus by helping them stay in the present. I believe this is great for students and it is a crucial skill to have for everything we do. “I’m interested in taking Mindfulness & Communication because it sounds rad,” said student Coleen Cabral. “I would like to learn how to be mindful and how to meditate and to live in the present moment. To distress from my other four classes I’m going to take. It’s a way to knock out an upper-division elective requirement without … [Read more...] about Mindfulness is a powerful tool
Mission statement
Coyote Chronicle Staff An analysis of various news reports of world issues from around the brings a great awareness to our campus. As diverse as we all are, understanding world issues from parts of the world that some of our students come from or have ties to, brings our student body great awareness of the world and each other. Coyote Chronicle staff has felt the need to make these issues available for all students, so that we would be able to keep all students' knowledge of worldly affairs open to all students and staff. For the great diversity of student body that we have at CSUSB, we feel keeping up on major issues is very important for the interest for our students. All … [Read more...] about Mission statement
New scholarship will give more aid to students
By Devin Ramos |Staff Writer| The Middle Class scholarship will give relief to students and families that struggle to pay for tuition in California State Universities and Universities of California. The rising costs of attending college show that people are in need of a scholarship tailored specifically to their income bracket. The scholarship can cut tuition by 40 percent for families making under $100,000 and will also target DREAM Act students. A student must first complete an application for Federal Student Aid to automatically be considered for the scholarship. In my opinion, the process to be considered has been made simple for students to obtain money to help them … [Read more...] about New scholarship will give more aid to students
Don’t celebrate the imfamous
By Devin Ramos |Staff Writer| The proposed boxing match between George Zimmerman and rapper DMX was a poor choice by the event's promoters as it glorified Zimmerman for his infamous trial in 2013. The fight would boost the already infamous Zimmerman into the celebrity spotlight by glorifying his acquittal for the death of Trayvon Martin. There was anger and pleas that sought justice for Martin after Zimmerman's acquittal, which added fuel to the media frenzy. In my opinion, we need to be aware that putting Zimmerman on display is not the way to go about giving him what the public thinks he deserves. CNN reports that Rev. Al Sharpton said that he was concerned about the … [Read more...] about Don’t celebrate the imfamous
Ban plastic bags to save environment
By Devin Ramos |Staff Writer| I was originally one of the many people that were skeptical about the newly adopted ordinances against plastic bags enacted by Los Angeles, but after some research I find that it might be a good step in helping the environment. San Bernardino County has not made any moves against plastic bags, but people cringe when they hear about how ordinances against plastic bags are beginning to spread. The ban will come as an initial inconvenience for some, but with the increasing evidence of the damage that plastic can do to our oceans, I think that in time people will become aware. Student Kelly Pearson said, “I think it’s ridiculous. I’m for saving the … [Read more...] about Ban plastic bags to save environment
Avoid the stress and start shopping now!
By Courtney Mata |Staff Writer| Sales! They are everywhere this holiday season, but where do you really save a buck? We all know that Black Friday is around the corner, that crazy intense day where everyone loses their sanity and rushes into department stores with a credit card in hand. Well, it doesn’t have to be that way. Many stores have an online site where you can begin Black Friday shopping early. Amazon have been sending out e-mails reminding their customers to shop for Black Friday sales online. I know this because I have an Amazon account and I have been receiving friendly reminders on Black Friday sales. If Black Friday shopping is not your first choice to shop … [Read more...] about Avoid the stress and start shopping now!
Thanksgiving dish on a budget
By Courtney Mata |Staff Writer| The holidays are quickly approaching and we all know what that means! Food! Family and friendly gatherings are nothing new to the holiday scene, but for students on a holiday budget, preparing a holiday treat can seem a bit pricey. One of my favorite and least expensive holiday meals to make is green bean casserole. Green bean casserole requires only a bag of jack and cheddar shredded cheese, two cans of green beans, two cans of mushroom soup and a bag of crispy onions. There are many ways to add to the casserole like adding bacon bits, but I like to keep it simple and I always get compliments on this dish. So let’s get started! First … [Read more...] about Thanksgiving dish on a budget
