The Ice Bucket Challenge was popular about two years ago. Many stars and people joined this campaign to help amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, according to ALS Association. Hijab, in the Muslim religion, represents modesty, privacy, and morality. 101 CSUSB students accepted the Hijab Challenge, which allowed students the opportunity to look at the world from the perspective of Muslim women who wear the hijab. July of this year, Pete Frates, former Boston College baseball player, announced he suffers from ALS and challenged some friends (NFL players Tom Brady and Matt Ryan) to the ice bucket challenge. That challenge inspired the ALS ice bucket challenge and soon it went viral. The way it works is that a person is challenged to dump ice cold water on themselves (which in theory is supposed to give a person an idea of what it feels like to have ALS). Climbing for body and soul
By Carley Bennecke |Staff Writer| The Mile High Challenge is an opportunity to experience self-growth, discovery and a fun workout. It is an opportunity for members of the Student Recreation and Fitness Center (Rec Center) to accomplish the goal of climbing the height of a mile, or 5,280 feet. The climbing wall in the Rec Center is 34 feet tall. A participant would have to climb to the top 155 times to complete the challenge.The climb is very a very steep and difficult one to make.
