Struggle over food and technology tightens wallets

October 18, 2014 by Archived posts 512 Comments

By Chelsea Galvez |Staff Writer| American spending is being compromised in order to keep up with the latest and greatest forms of technology. A survey conducted by the Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) showed that out of 805 Americans, 394 claimed to have economized or cut back spending on items such as food, healthcare, vacation and entertainment in order to keep up with advancing technology. “Technology is important because it is constantly changing, and has become a way of life since you are able to do anything with technology; it keeps us connected, which is why people feel lost without it,” said CSUSB student Amy Szerlip. The survey further revealed that in order to afford … [Read more...] about Struggle over food and technology tightens wallets

Get your head out of your phone and LOOK UP!

May 31, 2014 by Archived posts 370 Comments

By Nailea Ayala |Staff Writer| “We are a generation of idiots. Smart phones and dumb people,” said Gary Turk in his YouTube video Look Up. Turk goes further to say that we have become slaves to technology. It won’t be difficult to go out in public and find a person walking and looking down at their phones, or sitting at home watching a computer screen for hours of the day. Places like concerts, dinner tables, and school libraries all seem to be popular places for people to be on these devices. But are they so necessary that we forget what it is like to interact with others? It seems that people now find it more important to record a concert to later show friends on … [Read more...] about Get your head out of your phone and LOOK UP!

Why students choose certain technology

May 16, 2014 by Archived posts 644 Comments

By Mark Klopping |Staff Writer| Apple products are popular on campus, but each has different reasons for using them. Does the phone have everything needed? Does the laptop have possibilities? Most important, how does it make life easier? Geek or not, we all contribute to the technology wars. The decision to purchase a new phone, tablet or a laptop is all up to the consumer. Students everywhere rely on different forms of technology to pass the time, keep in contact and do assignments that will impress or astonish their professor. Tyler Lange is not a fan of Apple products like some students. “I have an HTC droid,” said Lange, “I prefer the wide-open system because it lets me do a … [Read more...] about Why students choose certain technology

Paying attention to your phone or your professor?

April 26, 2011 by Archived posts 6 Comments

By Angelina Garibay |Staff Writer| Can anyone remember what life was like before cell phones were our constant companions, our favorite accessory, our lifeline? Cell phones have become such an integral part of our lives. They keep us connected to our little sphere of society and the world at large. We can Tweet in an instant to reveal to our followers our deepest thoughts or a funny incident. We can share a laugh by posting a picture of some outlandish outfit that someone thought fit to wear in public, or better yet, upload a video to YouTube of their antics prancing around in it. And who can live a day without checking Facebook? Cell phones offer so much entertainment and, … [Read more...] about Paying attention to your phone or your professor?
