By Kaila Morales |Staff Writer| CSUSB baseball took their efforts to Stockton for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament, but were shut down by both Cal State East Bay and Cal Poly Pomona. The team traveled to Stockton for the CCAA tournament, which was held at Banner Island Ballpark. Banner Island Ballpark is the home of the Stockton Ports, a minor league baseball team who are affiliated with the Oakland Athletics. The Coyotes faced the Pioneers, who were ranked No. 2 overall in the CCAA, in game one on May 11. Coyote right-hander Tyler Wells got the start against East Bay. By Uriel Ortega |Staff Writer| Softball player Darian Manuz is the Coyotes' outfielder and currently the only senior on the team. She's looking to finish her season out strong. Last season, Manuz was very productive for the team. She started 44 games, had a batting average of .273 and the second most walks on the team. She played second base for the majority of the season and finished fourth in fielding percentage with a .951. Some highlights of last year included her seven multi-hit games. Manuz transferred from Palm Desert Community College where she played both seasons and was named school athlete of the year. Water polos CCAA tournament
By Kristopher Sarikas |Staff Writer| Coyote baseball came home with a tie for 2 in their four game series against the CSU Monterey Bay Otters on the weekend of April 12-14. The Coyotes topped off, winning the first two games of the weekend series, making a great come back during game two. The Otters left with the last two wins, claiming the 28th spot in NCAA collegiate baseball rankings. Stepping out on the field not sure of what was to come, the Yotes scored two runs in the first inning. CSUSB women’s basketball proud of season’s end
By Erin Leach | Staff Writer | Women’s basketball closed the season with a 46-55 loss against number two seed UC San Diego Tritons on Tuesday March 5. The Yotes were dealt a tough hand as the Tritons have been one of the most notable teams this past season with an overall record of 20-10. With a 13-13 overall record (11-11 in the CCAA) going into the game, it was the first time since January 2011 that the Coyotes were able to pull of a .500 average for their season. “We played hard, but we just didn’t play a full 40 minutes of basketball,” said senior Kristen Huffman. Women’s basketball reaches fifth straight loss
By Erin Leach |Staff Writer| The women’s basketball team was unable to gain the needed extra points to bring home wins this past weekend. The Coyotes took on the Sonoma State Seawolves on Friday, Jan. 25 and lost 50-53. The teams went back and forth Friday night. Fans were excited when after the half, the Coyotes picked up their game to gain a 41-34 lead, but the team was unable to power through the remainder of the game. “Often, it is how we pick ourselves up after a defeat or setback that determines our success,” said head coach Kevin Becker. Women’s soccer remain positive as season comes to end
By Lindsey Allen |Staff Writer| The CSUSB women’s soccer team wrapped up their season last week on a positive note with a 1-0 win over Cal State East Bay, ending the season 9-7-2 overall and 7-7-1 in the CCAA. This is the fifth consecutive winning season for the Coyotes, which is a school record. The team finished fifth in the CCAA out of 12 teams. “We played really well with a lot of new, young players. I think some of our losses were due to youth and inexperience ... we had games where we started eight freshman. Women’s volleyball defeats rival CSULA
By Devan Lee |Staff Writer| CSUSB women’s volleyball comes out on top of their conference after they shut out rival school Cal State Los Angeles, Saturday Oct. 20. The victory marked the team’s third win in a row after they faced a bitter defeat against Cal State East Bay a week earlier that ended their eight game winning streak. After such a disappointing loss, head coach Kim Cherniss and her staff devised multiple strategies to bounce back and inevitably gain a winning edge in their upcoming games. Women’s soccer inches closer to playoffs with win over Chico
By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| The women’s soccer team hoped to secure a spot in the playoffs and 2nd place in the South Division going into the weekend. Coming into the match against Chico State on Friday, the Lady Coyotes ranked fourth in their division, just two points behind Cal State L.A. for second. If the Coyotes manage to win each of their next two games, they would qualify for an automatic bid to the CCAA tournament.
