How to get from here to a career

May 22, 2019 by Danaya Thomas 227 Comments

A solid educational background is helpful, and while some students pursue a degree for personal satisfaction, it’s more likely than not, that there is hope for better employment opportunities. In today’s competitive job market, it would be much simpler if applicants understood what should be on a resume, why it should be there and what skills employers are really looking for when scanning through applications and resumes. One very important concept learned in college, is that research matters. Without research, many issues would go unidentified, there would be a lack of understanding and success as well would be hard to notice. In June 2018, the Career Center initiated that First … [Read more...] about How to get from here to a career

May 1, 2019 by Priscilla Medina 5 Comments

Many students feel clueless when given the question, “Are you ready to graduate?”.  Countless students respond similarly with “ Finishing school yes, but not the real world.” I asked a few students why they felt that way, when the Career Center is there to help ease that feeling of what comes next. Numerous students have never attended the Career Center workshops. CSUSB student Janneth Milian explains how difficult it is to go during the scheduled times the career center scheduled the workshops. “Always the same time, twelve to one,” Milian said. Like Milian, many students have work or class at the time.  They wish they can attend workshops on internships, resume building and … [Read more...] about Are students ready to Graduate?

Students discuss graduation plans

January 30, 2017 by Amber Childress 7 Comments

By Amber Childress |Staff Writer| Although college is supposed to be a four year plan intended for all students, not every student agrees. Some students see college as a process that every student has to go through at their own pace in order to advance. “The process of graduating is everything you’ve done to get you to finish," stated student Jackie Barajas. "It’s the hard work you put in for years, the long hours of studying, the stress, and everything else that comes with it,” added Barajas. Other students consider requirements that must be fulfilled as a determining factor in one's graduation plan. “Before you start taking classes for your major you have to go … [Read more...] about Students discuss graduation plans
