Student safety in the wake of armed robbery and theater scare
Safety here has become a major talking point at CSUSB, especially after an attempted armed robbery occurred on campus on April 9, in parking lot C. Not only that, but on April 22 a man who was under the influence of a controlled substance was arrested for disrupting a rehearsal in the theater of the Performing Arts building. His bizarre behavior and unusual posturing led witnesses to believe he was possibly armed with a weapon. Nobody was harmed in either situation according to the University Police Department (UPD). There are some issues that need to be addressed if we are to build solidarity amongst our campus community. These issues range from freshmen who are upset with how the food is prepared in the Commons to seniors who are complaining that it is difficult for them to meet other students. By Rona Ortiz |Staff Writer| The Police Department at CSUSB is active on campus and very beneficial to students, faculty and staff. The Campus Police Department employs 18 sworn police officers. They have an active support staff including community service officers (CSO). The CSOs are students who are trained to assist the officers and the CSUSB community. Additionally, patrol teams monitor the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Police Chief wins Campus Safety Award
By Christopher Johnson |Staff Writer| CSUSB’s Police Chief Jimmie Brown was selected by Campus Safety Magazine as the recipient of the 2010 Campus Safety Director of the Year Award. “I’m still in shock.
