This week’s focus is on Coyote baseball player Grant Buchanan. Buchanan spent the first two years at Colby Community College (CCC), located in Kansas, where he would sharpen his skills for his next baseball career jump. Buchanan decided to come to CSUSB where he has been able to demonstrate his impeccable skills for our baseball team since the 2015 season as an infielder and outfielder. Buchanan has been playing really well and has been performing up to the standards that coaches sought after the past two seasons … [Read more...] about Student Spotlight: Grant Buchanan:
Coyotes want to be millionaires
By Anna Gonzales |Staff Writer| Seventy percent of millenials remain confident they will one day become millionaires, according to a recent poll performed by Fusion. Millenials are defined as individuals born in the 1980s or the 1990s, according to Merriam-Webster. This may be an alarming statistic due to reports published by Fusion stating, “that 28 million people between the ages of 18 and 34 neither go to school nor earn more than $10,000 per year.” Fusion also reported that 40 percent of the participants in the poll depend on their parents for financial support. Men’s basketball 3-pointers ensure win
By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| The Coyote’s caught fire from 3-point range propelling them to their first win of the season, with their backs against the wall and down 12 points late in the first half, beating UC San Diego 90-82. The game tested the Coyotes’ ability to remain calm and stick to their game plan Nov. 24 at Coussoulis Arena, leading them to their first CCAA victory. The Coyotes [1-1] struggled early with turnovers and the deficit could have been worse going into halftime. However, back-to-back three pointers by guards Brian Goins and Jamari Simmons allowed the Coyotes to earn some momentum as they would go into the break down 34-31. “I was proud of them,” said head … [Read more...] about Men’s basketball 3-pointers ensure win

By, Julia Matulionis |Staff Writer| For young adults (ages 18-29) unemployment is at 12 percent, compared to the 7.9 percent rate of unemployment for the entire nation, according to a recent press release by Generation Opportunity, a non-profit organization. Among other things, this can be contributed to lack of opportunity and the organization is urging young people to pay closer attention to politics and get out and vote. In 2008, President Obama stood on the platform of hope. He urged young Americans to get to the polls and they did, with 66 percent of young Americans voted for Obama in the 2008 election. According to The Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning … [Read more...] about Youth Unemployment
Three straight losses keep women’s soccer out of playoffs
By Ryan Libby |Staff Writer| If you walked into the woman’s soccer team practice you wouldn’t be able to know that they just lost three straight games and missed the playoffs. Instead, you would hear laughter and chatter about the recent mid-terms and be able to see the smiles spread across their faces. The mood was light and relaxed. It made me wonder if the stressful week of needing to win two games against opponents like Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus had weighed them down. It might have, but it also may have been inexperience. “I thought the game was even,” said Coach Travis Clarke when talking about the team’s loss to Chico on Oct. 19. “Kind of chalk that one … [Read more...] about Three straight losses keep women’s soccer out of playoffs
CSUSB president brings awareness to Prop. 30
