Assembly Bill 453 (AB-453) was presented to CA Legislature to fight student hunger among California State Universities by requiring campuses to implement a meal plan donation program on April 25. According to a statement released from the CSU Office of the Chancellor on March 22, the tuition increase will “generate $77.5 million for student success initiatives.” “If our advocacy efforts do not result in adequately funding the trustees’ budget request, the revenue generated by this increase will allow us to add faculty, courses, advisors and other resources to improve students’ opportunities for success,” said CSU Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Steve Relyea. Obama turns attention toward California drought

Obama and Governor Jerry Brown met with farmers in Fresno, CA. Fresno’s farmland has suffered through a winter with a lack of rain and snow. Obama has pledged over $183 million from an existing federal fund to help farmers recover from the severe drought. “Water has been seen as a zero-sum game: Agriculture against urban, north against south. In the aftermath of the tragedy that struck Newtown, Connecticut claiming the lives of 20 children and six elementary school employees and the Aurora Colorado massacre, it’s not hard to see that the issue of gun control can no longer be ignored. There needs to be a common ground between public safety and gun control. CSUSB prepares for “Great ShakeOut”
By Jocelyn Colbert |Staff Writer| Millions of Californians statewide dropped to the ground last Thursday for “The Great California ShakeOut,” the earthquake preparedness drill. At 10:18 a.m. in coordination with the date Oct. 18, people across Southern California “ducked and covered.” Together everyone braced for a mock 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The Great ShakeOut is the world’s largest earthquake preparedness drill meant to get people ready for the big one. The purpose of the ShakeOut is to encourage people and organizations to be prepared to survive and recover when the next big earthquake happens.
