Quarantine recipes that are healthy and affordable

November 3, 2020 by Colin Pedersen 562 Comments

When COVID-19 first hit and we had to quarantine ourselves, my fiancé and I had to pinch pennies seeing as we both couldn’t work. Regardless of that, we were adamant about not gaining the quarantine 15 and closely watching what we ate, making sure we kept our calories reasonable and our protein high. We wanted to try and make some things that would be tasty and different from our usual, cheap go-to meals. We ended up with a bunch of variations and new recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Unfortunately, since this would be way too long if I shared them all, I’ll just share a few of my favorites! Protein French Toast Let’s start with breakfast: This one is protein French toast … [Read more...] about Quarantine recipes that are healthy and affordable

June 4, 2017 by Franciny Gonzalez 8 Comments

By Franciny Gonzalez |Staff Writer| Finding the right gift for dad can be difficult when an individual is limited on money and time, however, with proper brainstorming, you can create your own DIY for Father's Day. "I always have a hard time finding a gift for my dad, since we have different taste. I think doing a gift made by myself is the best way to go," said student Victoria Lopez. When it comes to thinking of a DIY gift, it would be helpful to list things that your dad enjoys doing, eating or even cooking to get you started with an idea. "Yes, I love to do DIY, because it makes you distress, it's calming for me, whenever I get stressed I go and buy a couple things and start … [Read more...] about D.I.Y Father’s Day Gift

Considering No Confidence: Karen Kolenheiman, Faculty Senate Chair

May 29, 2017 by Arturo Brooks 191 Comments

By Janet Curiel & Arturo Brooks |Staff Writers| Q. Why does the Faculty Senate feel there isn't shared governance? A. Shared governance is a hallmark of university life. It is how ideas are vetted and policies and plans are put through the grist of collective consideration. The Senate and its committees are the bodies that do this work and ensure that the faculty perspective is represented. It is incumbent upon administration to consult these bodies as a normal part of the business of the university.Since President Morales’ arrival on campus, shared governance has eroded. Major decisions affecting the university have been made with little or no attempt to solicit faculty input. The … [Read more...] about Considering No Confidence: Karen Kolenheiman, Faculty Senate Chair

By Brittanie Gutierrez |Staff Writer| The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees approved a $270 tuition increase to take place fall 2017. According to a statement released from the CSU Office of the Chancellor on March 22, the tuition increase will “generate $77.5 million for student success initiatives.” “If our advocacy efforts do not result in adequately funding the trustees’ budget request, the revenue generated by this increase will allow us to add faculty, courses, advisors and other resources to improve students’ opportunities for success,” said CSU Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Steve Relyea. Grad rates addressed

February 9, 2016 by Archived posts 134 Comments

By Elle Carlos | Staff Writer | Chancellor Timothy White discussed upcoming goals for the 2016-17 academic year on Jan. 26, at his State of the CSU address.   White focused on the need for CSU’s to close the achievement gap, the rate between white and minority student graduates.   “I am acknowledging that empowering historically under served, low-income, first-generation and English-as-a-second-language communities demands more of our time, attention and resources. It requires our best thinkers and best doers,” said White.   With the ongoing budget negotiations for the coming year, students can be reassured that tuition will not increase within the upcoming … [Read more...] about Grad rates addressed

SoCal bullet train

February 2, 2016 by Archived posts 13 Comments

By Jordan Mitchell | Staff Writers | State rail authority has reconsidered initial plans to begin construction of Southern California’s bullet train in Burbank and may start in the Bay Area.   A recent article published by the Los Angeles Times accused rail planners of underestimating project deadlines, as well as their $68.4 billion budget to build the bullet train.   “The very fact that they’re thinking of going 180 degrees from all of the planning they’ve been making so far, to me is an indication that the very issues that the Los Angeles Times brought up are the kinds of issues that I think they have to deal with,” said assembly member Jim Patterson (R-Fresno) in … [Read more...] about SoCal bullet train

Despite progress, some states underwater

May 17, 2015 by Archived posts 31 Comments

By Jorge Campos |Staff Writer| Nearly 50 percent of America expects gaps in state budgets as a result of recent the lean U.S. economic activity. An analysis of statehouse finance around the country shows that at least 22 states project shortfalls for the coming fiscal year, according to the Associated Press. The shortage recalls the depression era anxiety about reducing the tax revenue and deep cuts to education, social services and other government-funded programs. Other states have been hurt by a steep decline in oil prices or have seen their efforts to promote growth through tax cuts fail to work as anticipated, according to The Huffington Post. The result would separate … [Read more...] about Despite progress, some states underwater

Governor Brown’s CSU fund falls short of expectations

January 17, 2015 by Archived posts 6 Comments

By Danni Ybarra |Staff Writer| California Gov. Jerry Brown’s new budget proposal calls for an increase in higher education funding for the fourth consecutive year. Many hope the budget would hold to its current $142.2 million increase rate, however that was not the case. Instead the California State University (CSU) system will be receiving a $119.5 million increase from last year, according to the Los Angeles Times. The proposed budget falls in line with the governor’s multi-year stable funding plan for higher education, which seeks to provide “a 20‑percent increase in General Fund appropriations over a four‑year period (2013‑14 through 2016‑17)” as stated directly from the … [Read more...] about Governor Brown’s CSU fund falls short of expectations
