They ended their weekend against Texas-Permian Basin Feb. 14. Coyotes split the weekend series, winning two games and losing two. The non-conference game against the Broncos was an excellent match up having both teams' best pitchers starting the game. This victory improves the Coyote's conference record to 9-4, with junior guard Briana Harden scoring 18 points and an impressive 15 rebounds in the rout of the Gators. By Lily Perez |Staff Writer| Coyote’s Arielle McCullough is on the verge of setting a new Coyote volleyball record while contributing to the team’s goal, winning another conference championship. McCullough, senior captain, has 43 digs to go before surpassing Megan Haas’s all time record of 1,566 digs, set during the years of 2006 and 2008. McCullough is libero, which is a specialized defensive position that plays in the back court; they play in all back rows for the middle front, but never rotate to the front row. “I go in saying I’m not going to let the ball drop, I play like every play is my last play” said McCullough. The game came down to the last minute as the Broncos squeezed out a 76-73 victory. The Coyotes scored consistently and played aggressively throughout the entire game, which was more prevalent in the fourth quarter. With five seconds left on the clock, sophomore Alexcia Mack made a deep three-pointer from the top of the key to take the game into overtime. The Coyotes were able to close the gap to 73-74, but were unable to take the lead. The New England Patriots played at the Denver Bronco’s Sports Authority field in Mile High Denver, Colorado. The sun was shining very brightly and Bronco fans were dressed in high spirits. The Broncos and Coyotes played three close games with the Coyotes prevailing victorious in all three sets. The highlight plays of Outside Hitter Alexandra Torline and Defensive Specialist Arielle McCullough helped the Coyotes win 25-22 in the first set, 26-24 in the second set, and 25-22 in the third set. The Coyotes played two games at home against the Broncos of Cal Pol Pomona on Feb. 8 and then the Lumberjacks from CSU Humboldt on Feb. 9. The ‘Yotes were in for a tough one against fourth ranked Broncos but fell short losing 69-80 in a heartbreak fashion.
