By Jarrod Walley |Staff Writer| Judge Neil Gorsuch has been selected by President Donald Trump as a nominee to become the Secretary of the Supreme Court. On Tuesday Jan. 31, President Trump selected Judge Neil Gorsuch of Colorado to fill the Secretary of the Supreme Court position that has been vacant after the passing of Judge Antonin Scalia in early 2016. Compared to some of President Trump’s other nominees, Gorsuch was well received and respected by both parties. However, his nomination is under speculation from the Democratic side. Such actions were recently seen in the arrest of three men who allegedly planned to use a weapon of mass destruction to target Somali immigrants in western Kansas. “Social surveys indicate we are experiencing the highest level of anti-Muslim prejudice in recent history, with Muslims representing the most disdained religious faith in the United States,” stated Brian Levin, director of the CSUSB Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism. Protesting and rioting moves west
By Joshua Adamson |Staff Writer| Protests erupted in El Cajon after the fatal police shooting of an unarmed black man last month. Alfred Olango, 38, was shot and killed by police after his sister had called the police to assist in subduing her brother. These protests in El Cajon are the latest of a series of demonstrations against recent police shootings of unarmed black men, following similar protests in other states like Louisiana and New York. Boston Marathon Bombing kills 3, injuries 176
Kandyce Hall |Staff Writer| A manhunt for Boston bombing suspects has left one killed and the other captured, at the time of publication. Boston police apprehended Dzhorkar Tsarnaev, 19, Fri., April 19 following a frenzied day long search after a shootout that left his brother and fellow suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, dead. A MIT campus police officer was also killed during the exchange of gunfire. The brothers are allegedly responsible for the two bombs that exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon Mon., April 15 killing three and injuring over 170 people.
