Tumblr Girl Take Over

November 16, 2015 by Archived posts 30 Comments

By Vivian Gurrola-Amissah |Staff Writer| Today, society's visual of a "Tumblr girl" is pretty feminine girls posting pictures of their trendy hairstyles, dressed in the most stylish hipster outfits, celebrity news, cliche quotes, and gifs on your favorite TV shows to spare. For some reason Tumblr girls always seem to look better, maybe even perfect, through their corny quotes, animal videos, sunset pictures and mainstream radio songs. Although, many girls have received plenty of criticism over the term "Tumblr girl," many do not seek to realize it is not always about girls showing themselves off or their outfits. Rapper G-Eazy talks about the blog site in his hit song "Tumblr … [Read more...] about Tumblr Girl Take Over

Wallet-friendly beauty suggestions to Coyotettes

October 11, 2014 by Archived posts 78 Comments

By Daleth Quintanilla | Staff Writer There are seven inexpensive ways to look and feel good that college students need to know. Beauty regimens at a salon or spa can be pretty pricey and let's face it, as college students we cannot afford to go to the salon every week. Let's do some simple math: a particularly high-maintenance person such as myself needs to have manicured hands every week, and that's $25 a week for a simple gel manicure. Weekly manicures mean every month we are spending one hundred dollars solely on nails, $100 equates to $1,200 a year, and that's the cost of just a manicure. What about a pedicure or facial? When you look good, you feel good, and even though … [Read more...] about Wallet-friendly beauty suggestions to Coyotettes

A New Yorker in Cali: Being happy and healthy while living on campus

February 20, 2013 by Archived posts 54 Comments

By Angelice Romero |Staff Writer| Living in dorms can put a toll on your mental state, pockets and not to mention your weight, unless you can find ways to stay happy and healthy. For a majority of us exchange students, we have left our comfort zone, so we have to find new, healthy outlets to keep us sane. Becoming part of a club or social organization on campus just might help find a few friends. Even becoming study buddies with a classmate will get your mind off of being in a new place. I've become pretty close with my roommates and even some of their friends, so I never feel lonely here. I also try to keep up with my favorite shows or watch a good movie on Netflix just to … [Read more...] about A New Yorker in Cali: Being happy and healthy while living on campus

A New Yorker in Cali: Long Distance Relationships

February 14, 2013 by Archived posts 2 Comments

By Angelice Romero |Staff Writer| When you go on exchange, having a relationship or trying to develop one is hard, almost impossible Many people are opposed to long distance relationships but once you go on exchange, you don’t have much of a choice. Just as you are leaving your friends, you are leaving your significant other as well. Being in a long distance relationship is already hard but when you throw in being in a new place, it becomes harder. When you are in a long distance relationship you have to factor in the time zone differences and you have to remember to trust and respect each other. Being in a long distance relationship myself, my significant other and I find … [Read more...] about A New Yorker in Cali: Long Distance Relationships

A New Yorker in Cali: Dorm Life

January 31, 2013 by Archived posts 3 Comments

By Angelice Romero |Staff Writer| I feel that the most important part of transitioning as an exchange student is decorating your dorm. Living in the dorms for the first time, I've noticed that these rooms are so bare. I felt like the four white walls were talking to me. For my first week, I had absolutely nothing in my room; it was so painfully bare that I felt like it wasn't really mine. At first I started simple, putting color hooks on my walls, hanging stuff on it and then gradually adding posters and knick-knacks. I had a conversation with my roommates about decorating our rooms and making it feel more like home and we came to a conclusion that these walls were just … [Read more...] about A New Yorker in Cali: Dorm Life

Fat, Brown and Vegan: An introduction

January 30, 2013 by Archived posts 4 Comments

By Richard Bowie |Executive Editor| When you think of a vegan or vegetarian, what image pops up? A frail, malnourished hippie? Someone who eats dandelions and yeast? Well how about a virile young man of color who has a zest for life, and a curvaceous bod that just won’t quit? That’s right, you’re reading the words from your very own local, loving, San Bernardino vegan. I’m aware how unusual that may sound, and that many people don’t understand what this is all about, so I wanted an opportunity to reach out to my peers and share what veganism is and what it means to me. Consider this an introduction to “Fat, Brown and Vegan.” I have a lot of ideas about what to write because … [Read more...] about Fat, Brown and Vegan: An introduction

Jane Says: Movie Poster Inherent Sexism

May 12, 2012 by Archived posts

By Rachel Cannon |Chronicle Blogger| For these past few weeks, all anyone seems to be talking about is "The Avengers," the new Marvel film that is breaking box office records left and right. Although I'm not a comic book aficionado myself, I've definitely been struck by the overwhelming positive response to this movie. It seems that most comic book films incite fan outrage by purists who find all sorts of gripes and details in which the movie failed to come through in a way that was true to their own visions or what they perceived to be the visions of the comic artists themselves. Not so for this film: I've heard scarcely a negative word about it at all. I admit I haven't seen it … [Read more...] about Jane Says: Movie Poster Inherent Sexism

Coyote Jock Talk: What the Lakers really need

February 17, 2012 by Archived posts 89 Comments

By Jovani Gama |Sports Editor| Before the beginning of the regular season, for a split moment, Laker fans were beginning to plan their trip to Staple Center for yet another championship parade. Chris Paul, one of the league's most coveted point guards, was a Laker. Step one of preparing for the post-Kobe Bryant era was complete, and the Lakers finally had a piece to their puzzle that they had been missing for years. Suddenly, NBA Commissioner David Stern did the unthinkable and vetoed the trade, forcing Paul to go back to the Hornets, and a disgruntled Lamar Odom to report to the Lakers' training camp the next day. Star power forward Pau Gasol was also involved in the trade, but … [Read more...] about Coyote Jock Talk: What the Lakers really need

Dinner in the Desert: The Salted Pig

February 17, 2012 by Archived posts 32 Comments

By Eric Brown |Online Editor| It's my intention to bring to light some of the finer places to eat around the Inland Empire in this Dinner in the Desert blog. This week I will look at The Salted Pig in Riverside, CA; click on the map to the right for directions and check out my blog below. Located next to the municipal center of Riverside is an exquisite burger bar that specializes in pork manifestations and craft brew. The Salted Pig is easy to miss tucked away next to tall buildings in downtown Riverside, and from the outside it is not ornately adorned, but as soon as you step inside you forget you were standing next to bleak city buildings as you are greeted with its cozy hide-away … [Read more...] about Dinner in the Desert: The Salted Pig

Forever[not]alone

February 14, 2012 by Archived posts 21 Comments

You're not alone, alone.

Let’s talk about being single. I mean desperate. I mean dying alone. Never mind. Let’s start over…I’m wanting to start something special with someone, with a partner. Multiple partners as a matter of fact; and no, this is not Mitt Romney's blog. I'm talking about you, the readers. I want more than one kind of people to take something away from my entries. Perhaps someone will take comfort in knowing they're not alone in being alone. Maybe you're not someone who goes out every night to listen to music that's way too loud and hang around people that are way too drunk. At the very least you got to respect a Coyote spilling their guts to the Interwebs. Discovering someone … [Read more...] about Forever[not]alone
